Oh yeh for sure. I was going to buy a new one. I made that statement more of a figure of speech.

I was just lucky enough to see one come up on gumtree and took the opportunity to grab it. Im now hooked on restoring old gear.
I also just bought a good industrial quality Australian made bench grinder for peanuts. I have converted it in to an open wire wheel one side and a buffing wheel the other side.

Im now looking out for an old Lathe and Milling machine at the right price that needs some love.

Thanks, it wasnt a big job to be honest. Just a day or so of quality shed time brought it up nice and shiney.

Finished few jobs on the old camper.
Years aho i cut one side off, but change my mind with what i was going to do.
Have since added gerry can holder, but was all exposed, so made new plate to match other side again


Up to now the plug from trailer to camper (old trailer plug, does the job) had just been zip tied to pole, but today finally made the bracket to bolt it too, ill cut tge wires down shorter to better suit.


And finally cut rust out pf back of floor and replated up.

I love old well made gear like this. You just cant get equipment like this these days. Why would you pay $600-700 for a Chinese built drill press when you can buy these old things second hand for peanuts. They are very simple. Besides a few bearings there is nothing to go wrong.

I searched for about 6 months trying to find a good drill press or preferably a mill/drill.
Everyone wants top dollar for junk.

All of the reasonably priced units that I enquired about where not actually reasonably priced.
"Yeah mate it's all good, the main shaft is a bit bent, but still runs" or "It has been awesome for me, needs a new motor and a set of bearings but should scrub up ok"

In the end I gave up and bought a near new secondhand 16 speed 1hp Chinese press for about 1/4 the price that the other muppets wanted for their scrap metal.

I agree it can sometimes be difficult because of the exact reasons you just said but the bargains are out there. When something worth while comes up its about being ready to pounce before the next bloke does. Gumtree and facebook market place is full of idiots who make low ball offers so it pays to make reasonable offers as well.

I am now looking for an old Hercus Lathe and Mill.

Found my old Land Rover bottle jack in the shed, and it wasn't working...

So, super cheap auto had a special on hydraulic oil for jacks (nearly half price), and gave it a full oil change and bleed, and it's as good as new...

Also, when I got it, it never came with the proper lever, so I rang the local Land Rover mechanics in town to see if they had one, and lo and behold, they had a full kit (proper two piece lever, wheel chocks and a bag) that they gave me for $20...

Perfect little jack for the camper...

Thanks, yeh he has a better system for holding the wheel barrow on now, I just dont have a photo.

My Kelso barrow spent its time travelling around on my tool trailer upright like in the photo you posted but was hooked over the spare wheel, simple strap around it and it never moved.

pop the oil fill plug on the side (be careful you don't tear it, depending on what condition it's in)
drain out old oil
pour in new oil, until it starts coming out of the fill hole... this is the oil i used:

replace fill plug, loosen valve at bottom of jack, press down on jack and pump about 20 or 30 times...
slightly dislodge the fill plug to let any air escape (i could hear some out of mine, made like a psst sound)
tighten valve and test.

Yeh we did the same sort of thing. Its just some real simple brackets that it sits 'in' and he uses one easy strap over it to hold it down.

What's happened to drawer slides

Want to make up a simple draw for the garage, but when I look for slides / runners they're all massive, super-heavy duty versions like:

I don't need something 45mm high & with 45kg load capacity for a 300mm deep draw! I just want the simple draw runners I've used a dozen times before, which are only ~15mm high with 5kg load

Can I safely I assume that they're another victim of nothing coming out of China

Thanks, Pete, but those ones only slide out part way, so you can't get all the way to the back of the draw.

I'm thinking of slides about the same size of them, but they come all the way out, like the ones I showed

Rebuilt the drive system in the Greenfield ride-on.... Again.

Been desperately trying to extend the life of the clutch plates, but now they are totally done, will have to order a new set before the grass starts growing again properly later in the year.

I have an old greenfield.  Great old mower but a real pain to work on.

I bought a new Husqvarna last year and it is very simple to work on, the whole deck R and R's in minutes.

I don't really find it that hard to work on, I like that the whole thing is fabricated out of steel, so it's fully repairable. Not like all the plastic mowers that I looked at before buying the Greenfield.

My mower has just had a really hard life.
The first few years it was essentially a grader, leveling out all of the humps and clearing rocks around the block.

Now it's just the shape of the block that gives my drive system such a hard time.
The side of the house is a slope about 20m long, it's somewhere around 17 to 20 degrees incline, so have to mow up and reverse back down.
Only issue is this slope is 180m long... So with a 32 inch wide cutting deck, minus a bit of overlap on each cut, that's a hell of a lot of forward and reverses over the last 12 years.

I recon many other mowers would have given up long ago.
Apart from replacing the original alloy cutting deck with a new locally fabricated one, everything on this thing is still original.

Sat and watched young Jack replace the rear  shocks on his Astra.
Told him to use the impact driver instead of the rachet to crack the bolts/wheel nuts.

He did good

Made up a bar for two jerry can holders. Sits across the rear bumper bar on the van. This space was previously taken up by a 6" PVC tube full of tent poles, for a tropical fly.
