Got me stumped then! Those same hookie things came in our door handle sets for our bathroom and toilet doors and I figured they were to unlock the
handle!

Shippo, if they sre Privacy set, being able to lock the door from inside the room, the outside knob/ handle will have a shallow slot(kinda looks like a key will go in), a bread & butter knife will do the same job.
It's in case a child or elderly person locks themselves in the room, you can still gain access.
When I install them, I will explain that to the person and put in on top of the architrave above tbe door, out of childrens reach.

If you look in the specification for the lock in the link you posted it says adjustable backset ..this means the latch body telescopes from 60 to 70 mm normally by moving a little lever and pulling or pushing the back side of the latch in or out..

Yep, we spotted that, but even set at 60mm, the inside end of the latch body was pushed so hard up against the timber that the faceplate was 5-10mm proud of the edge of the door!

That's weird having those measurements being out, hmmm

Yeah, I thought the same, as we've previously replaced other door knobs & they were a simple, 5 minute, out with the old & in with the new, job

The place was a Dixon Home, which means everything was done as cheaply as possible , so they possibly found a stock of old knobs to put on I did notice when I was pulling the old one out, that it had "2 3/8" engraved on it, which suggests it was still Imperial, even though the place was built in 1980

2 3/8" is 60.32mm, so the new latch should have worked set at 60mm. They must have botched the original install for you to have as much trouble as you did. Glad you got it sorted.

shuffled everything around yesterday to fit the Z car in on Saturday.

It's ended up, Fords on one side, GM on the other side.

Took a break from renovating the western red cedar windows, sills and frames.
Pulled out the old school desk from the corner of the workshop to start the task of removing a previous owners concept of what a  piece of silky oak furniture should look like. Personally can't understand why you would paint a highly decorative timber like silky oak, but I have a dining table that has been given the same treatment
On re-assembly I will be using screws, rather than the 2"  nails that were holding it together. I think it is a reproduction, as the only thing not nailed, rather than jointed, are the uprights into the feet. These have mortise and tenon, with nails through the joint
As usual I forgot to take a photo before starting, but the black desk lid gives an idea of what the entire piece looked like prior to starting.

I will post the finished product in a few days (I hope)

Thanks Pottsy. The good thing is that the wI've and I are both under 175cm tall, and still kinda within cooee of our recommended weight, so both of us can sit at this desk if needs.

We've got new carpet coming soon, so fashioned up a furniture dolly to move everything around... even got a bit flash with a leather handle...

This mornings job done.
Install in the dash of the rodeo a fused power switch and dual usb port.

It wasnt today, it was actually a few weekends ago but I built the young bloke a tool trailer.
He needed it to hold a weight, have brakes, and a budget of less than 3k on the road.

Got the steel and parts delivered





Built the drawbar and chassis





Went ahead and framed it up



Made a cutting list for the sheeting



And proceeded to continue framing and sheeting









We put a coat of paint on it and the young bloke fitted it out with drawers and dividers etc to suit his needs





Went and got it registered......just snuck in under budget.

thought of a small channel for front of wheel barrow to sit in while travelling... I got my best ever wheel barrow once, it fell off a blokes trailer and he kept driving  LOLOL!!

Thanks, yeh he has a better system for holding the wheel barrow on now, I just dont have a photo.

My old Tig welder is old technology and doesn't do things as precisely as I would have liked so I decided to upgrade it. The bloke that bought it made an offer on both the Tig and Mig as a package on their stand that I couldn't refuse to I ended up upgrading both.



So I bought another Chinga AC Tig, a decent inverter Mig and a nice little plasma cutter. I am a bit more experienced these days so I knew exactly what I wanted out of each machine.



I then went and knocked up a new trolley out fo scrap left over from the tool trailer build.
And of course painted it with tool trailer paint







All the machines work as I hoped they would. The AC Tig welds Alloy beautifully and the little plasma is awesome.

Catching up a little here....this was last weekend.

Ive always wanted a decent way to store my left over shorts. In the past they have sat in containers under a bench and were always a pain to find anything.
Now most people would throw out scrap that I keep but Im a tight ar$e like that

So I built a mobile rack out of scrap!! Its nothing special but does the job and the price was right.

Now finally caught up. With the Covid restrictions being lifted down here I took the opportunity to buy an old Peerless (Australian made) drill press. This thing is as old as me (1970) but way over engineered so it has lasted the test of time and will continue to last.

I got it home, stripped it down, cleaned it, removed all the rust and polished the steel, re-painted it, greased everything and put it back together.



I have to say it runs as smooth as the day it was built and everything works perfectly.



I love old well made gear like this. You just cant get equipment like this these days. Why would you pay $600-700 for a Chinese built drill press when you can buy these old things second hand for peanuts. They are very simple. Besides a few bearings there is nothing to go wrong.

you'd buy a new one, if you couldn't find these types of bargains locally... like me...

pretty rare that this type of gear becomes available, around here anyways...
