I know it's a bit gadgety, but may help with checking how much gas is left in the bottle, without pulling it out to weigh it

I've had one for a while. It gives a very general indication of level. Not vastly different to the old hot water trick. Its certainly well short of a scale or digital pressure gauge.

I've got one.......called my arms.......the trick is you lift the bottle up and feel the weight.....swoosh it around a bit to feel how much is left....and you normally get another couple of camps out of it if it feels nearly empty.
Never ran out of gas in the last 200 trips away !!

The only issue, although small, is that you have to push the dial a few times for it to be accurate (designed that way).

We have ours on the camper about three years and so far it's been ok.

Yep. Got one too. They're great. They don't tell you how much gas you have left, more like when you've run out.....

I prefer to pick up the cyl. with the tap cracked open slightly and rotate the bottle till a small amount of vapour comes out.
you know exactly how much you have in the bottle then. 
Has to be done outside and well away from camp fires, smokers and gas hot water services.

I am not that interested in the gauge side as I have a second bottle as a back up and it is very simple to swap over the hose. Haven't even run the first bottle out of gas with the gauge on it so I will be interested to see how it goes.

I was more interested in the shut off function from a safety point of view.

The easiest and most accurate way to measure how much gas you have left is with a scale. I have a digital luggage scale. You just lift the bottle up with it, note the weight and subtract the tare weight of the bottle. It's easy, and very accurate.

That's what we do when we come home, but with the gas bottles in a cabinet on the van, it's a pain in the backside to turn the fridge off, unhook the bottle, take it out, weigh it, then put everything back together again, bleed the line & get the fridge running again

Incidentally, when we get the bottles refilled, we've found a bloke: https://www.everythingforgas.com/contact-us/, who refills cylinders by the actual amount of gas they take! Weighs them when you bring them in, refills, then weighs them out again & charges by the actual amount they took at $2.80/kg, not just a fixed price
