I was at work so missed the final couple of hours.......I missed out by $200..........I didn't really worry me though I thought I might be biting off more than I can chew........

If I got it my plan was to put pizza cutters back on it and do the absolute bare minimum to make it roadworthy again.

Auto serviced and new front seal fitted.
A few things have been getting a bit of paint on 'em.

Geez, its bloody hard trying to buy Cadillac engine paint here....
Its a really dark/deep blue and the closest I could get was a FFFFFF Ford colour.... oh the shame of it all.

Friggin good match though.



Its no show car, so I haven't got too carried away, but I did blow some paint over a few bits.... although, not many will see the transmission pan.

It MIGHT be back together by the time you get here, if not, it will be bloody close.

All the front bearings got repacked on the week-end and I gave the brakes (All new from the previous owner) a hit with some brake clean.
I'll do the same to the rears this week-end.

Been using paint stripper to get the tappet covers back to bear metal. Crap stuff to use when ya got a few nicks and cuts on ya hands.

Its beyond me, how people manage to dent tappet covers.  Been trying to tap out small marks before painting....

By my calculations, we'll gain about 5 cubic inches with the 30thou overbore, so we should be packing around 434 cubes at the finish. I tell ya, its a shame these 429 engines have such poor cylinder heads and intake manifold design. Decent heads and manifold, you'd have 500HP easy

Hope all my stuff keeps selling..... ya want camping stuff... see Jeepers, he has a Caddy to rebuild.

A nice set of Ally heads and a  few different inlet manifolds available in yanky land, can even get port plates and reversion stubs for them.. up the  compression a touch [ O ring the block, might pay too any way ] a nice balance job, would perk the O'l girl  up a bit .

Nah, just going together with Grandpa specs.... stock as a rock. (Mind you, 340 HP stock and 480 ft lbs of torque @ 2,800 RPM is still pretty good)

Nice shiny, brand spankers new starter motor arrived today too. $87.00 to the front door.....

Reading this thread always makes me check out what Brightwells have in their upcoming auctions, and to read the catalogue descriptions... Some great ones in the May sale by the looks of it when you read the catalogue brief.

I've been getting a few bits ready for the return of the block and heads soon.



In primer, the tappet covers looked mint.... until the gloss went on and the right bank cover has a dent. Luckily, its up the back, as i'm not re-doing it now.



Pretty reasonable shine too, so fairly happy with the outcome.
Even if I did have to use Ford dark blue to get close to the Cadillac blue. (Good ol VHT)



The correct colour, which is bloody close to what I've used, is available in the states, but Aussie Post and the US Postal Service would Shit themselves if I got someone to post aerosol cans. Be my luck i'd come up short too.

At least Autobarn Gympie isn't far away if i run out.
