I lowered the front of the XF panel van today by 1.5 inches......so there 

Wimp!  I dropped an XD sedan and XF pano by 3 inches no dramas.

Just need lowered shocks










and a kidney belt....






I did another XF van by about 2 inches using the Flexovit method, but that was to hide the plumbers bum sag.

Its my parts chaser, so I didn't wanna go too radical with it. Just trying to make it look sharp rather than a hottie.

When we had the 63 Pontiac in the late 90's, we had to lift the tailshaft tunnel so the shaft wouldn't hit the top of it after we lowered it.
Dumped the pipes at the diff, as there was no room for them to go after that.
It was bonefide ol sled that one.

To change a rear wheel was harder than pulling the engine out.

Installed a new set of Lovells shocks and springs in my brothers Paj. Set was for a 2" lift but the originals were so shagged that it came up 3.5". Looks like a real 4WD now

Installed my new lift kit in the NP yesterday. Similar story, it raised it 3".

Started cleaning up the XK yesterday to get it ready for resale in about two weeks.

Going to be a good car for someone. a very unmolested car too.
I was going to pull the engine and re-spray the engine bay, but decided to leave the original paint there... be it a bit ratty.
Apart from an electric fuel pump and wiper motor being fitted, its as stock as can be.

Never even been fitted with seat belts in its 58 years of existence.

Going to drop the clutch out tomorrow for a new one or rebuild the old one.
At 84,000 miles, its most likely the original clutch.

While you're there, have a look at the mechanical linkage.
One of the welds on mine (XP) started to peel open and the clutch kept going out of adjustment....an easy fix.
Also, the rubber pedal stop under the dash has a habit of chopping out, allowing the pedal to come up a long way.

I remember back in the 60's - 70's when seat belts became compulsory, we had a car (HR Holden ) without them fitted, but a mechanic friend of Mum's said that we didn't need them as they hadn't been fitted originally.

Does the same thing still apply

Yesterday I fitted a new locking fridge slide in the camper, slowly ticking off the repair list from our recent trip away. Nothing like buying the same size rivets that you drilled out, only to realise your pneumatic riveter doesn't actually go that big quick trip to local tool shop, and heart attack when you find it's $298 for a cheap one that can do the job...thankfully they had a "long handle" (it's not really long though) hand riveter for $35 that went that big, downside is it can't get into corners due to it's action of how it works. Got all but 4 rivets in the same way they were in originally, thankfully I could climb under the camper and reverse the way the last 4 rivets went in, and after abit of Sika thrown over them to seal up, it was job done

Yesterday I picked up a 2014 TTR110 from a mate at the right price. So it got stripped down for a bit of a clean and some maintenance. New air filter, oil change, thorough clean, cleaned and sprayed every electrical connection and modified the exhaust for a bit of noise.
Still need to find a set of bars as the originals have a slight bend and a new gear lever. Other than that, she's good to go. My boy can't wait to ride it. He's still recovering from a broken arm from a stack at BMX. Bit of an upgrade from his TTR50. The other plus is that his sister will inherit the TTR50 and I will sell off her PeeWee 50.

I think your Mum's Mechanic friend is in for a rude shock.
Or at least he would be, if he was in Victoria.
Used to be that front belts had to be fitted (if none previous) when a vehicle was presented for a roadworthy for a sale and transfer.
I believe that it's all passenger positions nowadays.
In Vic. the only way you could get away with not fitting seatbelts, was to retain continuous ownership from new, and never get a R/worthy done on the car.
In the States that have annual Safety Inspections.  It would be a fail to not have belts in the car when inspected, as I understand it.
The VACC had spec sheets for all sorts of vehicles, and what had to be done to satisfy the requirements for anchorages.
I'm sure the NRMA, and the other similar organizations in the rest of the country would have similar info.

Finally finished off the wood shed.
All materails are left over from jobs or stuff that was replaced.
Never waste anything.

Two posts are an old mobile basket ball  board/hoop.
Two ppst were from an old trampoline.
Roofing a pulled down awning.
Walls sheets are packing sheets from colourbond fence packing.
Floor sheets are an garden shed, screwed to a steel frame from s drop down ramp from a trailer.
Should keep the wood dry  and off the ground.

As far as i know, no seatbelts means no seatbelts..... in Qld. at least.
In some states, maybe the ambo's don't want to go looking for the body, so everyone has seatbelts.

I ended up dropping the clutch out today after all and spent hours trying to get the engine bay a bit nicer.
A new clutch kit on order, will be the first job tomorrow now.

it wasn't the whole fridge slide as such, i just replaced the heavy duty locking sliders that were on it, the old set up stopped locking the fridge back shut, so it wanted to open and close as we drove along. Basically I had to remove the entire fridge slide set up first, then remove the heavy duty sliders from that metal tray the fridge sits in, then fit new sliders and refit it all back in the camper again. Was a pretty easy job really, would have been much easier with the right pneumatic riveter though.

Gessoing started today using traditional rabit skin glue & whitning .

Wait for this to dry & then sand back to a smooth finish. (I hope)

I spent 2 hours sanding back the internal rear venetians for the XK yesterday, a coat of primer and then painted in nice gleaming white.

I had the XK in the side driveway, the Caddy nosed up to it and some Elvis in the music box. It made the whole job much easier.

Every time I was getting the Shits with the sanding, I just looked out at the cars.
Two very cool classic cars, some classic tunes, being semi retired, life's ok I reckon.
