Man charged after allegedly coughing on officer, claiming he had COVID-19

A NSW man has been charged with intimidation and hindering a police officer after he allegedly went into the police station and coughed on a 71-year-old officer.

Police say that the 21-year-old, who was at the Coffs Harbour Police Station to report to police as part of his bail conditions, "deliberately coughed on the woman and claimed he had COVID-19".

A friend filmed, police allege.

The man did not have the virus, but police were forced to close the station and put the relevant isolation procedures into place.

He has been charged with stalk/intimidate with intent to physically harm and hindering a police officer in the execution of duty.

He was granted police bail to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court on May 6.
