Did I mount my winch wrong?

Don't like to put a damper on it but as it is mounted forward of the bull bar it is probably illegal.
Also I hope you have a separate non accessible isolator switch for it or the vandals might have
some fun at your expense.

"Any part of a winch, fittings or other equipment which project forward of the bull bar, must not have any sharp edges or be an unsafe projection. Alternatively they should be enclosed with a suitable cover which is itself free from protrusions or sharp edges."

Warn make  removable winch cradles that allow you to fit a winch to a Hayman reece style front or rear receiver, depending where you need to winch from ... there are others out there that do the same .
