I like the Drifta DOT.
I am after a base model but notice that they are not taking any orders below $13k

So, are there any alternatives?
I am after a off-road box trailer with built quality similar to the Drifta DOT base.

Are you able to get one built? I've just draw up something similar for a mate. 1700 drawbar, 1500L x 1200W x 1000H box, integrated kitchen, rooftop tent, matching track and wheels etc. We're having the basic hot work done by a welder. Then going to do the cladding, wiring, kitchen, licencing etc ourselves. I've done this a couple of times and find a good way to get what want for reasonable price.  Have look here  http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/index.php for some ideas. The Yanks love these sort of trailer, known as an expedition trailer.

Edit. We're looking at about $6000 licenced, lots less than "professionally" built unit. Ours may not be as polished, but will be more than functional.

I've decided to wait for the next army auction and buy one the of the dual axle trailers.
There is one on ebay for about $4,500, but it is up north.

I notice that the ex army trailers have NATO hitch.
There is a couple of built treads for the trailer no 5, where the hitch was replace but all where done at home.
So, how did you tow it home?

Or one if these https://www.couplemate.com.au/trailer-parts-shop/pintle-hooks/combination-pintle-hook-receiver-arm/. You'll need lights as well as the mostly have round plugs.

Or Borrow or buy an ex army Landrover

Come on, you're at a Military Vehicle auction - round things off nicely with a 110 or 6x6 just so you can tow the trailer home!  ;D

Prefer the Unimog with hoist - can then just lift onto the back!

Best option will be trailer on trailer.

This was similar to a conversation with a mate (who also has harebrained ideas) where he was looking at No. 5 trailers or the Haulmark tandem axles, and I was looking at the DRZ400 motorbikes.... buy trailer, put bike in... get back to Northern NSW...
