Same here - rang up Telstra about an issue and they offered me the Samsung 8 inch Tablet plus 2.5 gig of data plus a bonus 1.5 gig of data on their data sharing deal - check out their web page if you are interested -

https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates/share-your-data

I went with it just to get the Tablet for SWMBO when we travel so I can load movies etc onto it (and so she doesn't use mine)

Only thing is with it you have to have been a Telstra customer for six months.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion!!

I use the Samsung 8 inch Tablet as my GPS,a decent size screen coupled up with a RAM Adjustable car windscreen suction mount makes this a great bit of gear.

Grabbed one yesterday for the young fellas bday present. Pretty easy to set up and work out how to use. I spoke to them using the online chat service and they said that it was only an online deal.

I picked one up last week in store.  Have to ask for it as it's not advertised.

Great value, considering a brand new unit is around $260.  So you pay $100 for 2.5gb of data for the next 24 months!

I reckon Telstra must be starting to pull out all the stops? After decades as loyal Telstra customers we have ditched three mobiles in as many months and looking to ditch the overpriced landline! They have to be hurting.

Next up is the business plan.
Here for a good time, not a long time!

He means that if you were to otherwise buy the tablet separately, which you could for $260, then because the overall cost of the deal is $360 over 24 mths, that means that the cost of the 2.5GB per month for 24 mths is $100.

I knew that just testing his Maths

I think they seem to be pulling out their network cables lately  ;D we were offline again yesterday due to a Telstra fault.

We ditched the landline ages ago and operate a family plan of bundled data sms and calls with optus. Much cheaper for us with many kids and devices.

How's your battery life?

I sometimes use my smartphone as a GPS & a day's trip will kill the battery, even with it plugged in to charge the entire time  :'(

I'm with McGirr, on this.
Went in to the nearest, non-franchise, Telstra Store in Ringwood.
A discussion about NBN from ADSL and connection to the new network.
Dropped the question about the $15.00 tablet.
Yep, it's per month for 24 months.

McGirr can do the Maths, ok.

I just tried to confirm the multiple payments over an extended period of time, instead of the ideal once only payment of $15.00.

we gave up on telstra 6/7 years ago for internet/phone and havent looked back ... they've had many issues over the years whilst we have had none ....  nowdays i just use a 7 inch samsung tablet for internet connection .... seems that we have become too reliant on gagetry.

I use another carrier and Pay $40- p.Mth for unlimited standard calls and texts, 3Gb standard data p/Mth Extra 2 Gb data every weekend.
Then activate Wifi hotspot on the phone to connect the tablet by Wifi. Works like a dream and then no need to sign up for another sim card / plan just for the Tablet.

thats cool but for people who do lots of remote area travel there is only 1 carrier.. been on plenty of trips where the other carriers dont even come close a signal and telstra does.

horses for courses telstra all the way for me based on personal exp.

Yep I agree. The other half is on tpg $16.99 for for $500 calls n 1.5gbs.  Id be on that in a flash if I didnt need reception in remote areas.

Telstra charges what they do cos they can.

I can also put the sim in my iridium sat phone if required.
