Reported in local paper,   (Not sure it was a smart move driving there at night and they should have known that there has been big tides and rough seas because of the cyclone.  Looking at the photo the one reported as a Landcruiser, is it or is it a Prado?)  Kevin

A GROUP of surfers returning from Double Island Point along Rainbow Beach's coastal road got stuck and had to abandon their two vehicles to the tide on Sunday.

Rainbow Beach Towing owner Dave Elder said a lot of sand had been washed away from Mudlo Rocks recently and both vehicles got stuck about 8pm.

"It was dark and they didn't realise the water was as deep as it was," Mr Elder said.

As the tide came in, it "swallowed" the Holden Jackaroo and Toyota Landcruiser, overturning the Landcruiser.

There was nothing that could be done to rescue the two vehicles until low tide, around 4pm yesterday, Mr Elder said.

Three vehicles have now been caught by the infamous Mudlo Rocks at Rainbow Beach this month.

Those rocks are well known for the damage they have caused to so many 4WD's over the years, so there is no excuse for these guys trying to drive around them especially at night. It's because of people like this our premiums keep going up every year.

Insurance companies should have a 'You're an Idiot' clause in their fine print which would cover such scenarios and save the rest of us a fortune!

KingBilly

Read about it on FB earlier in the week.  Couple of more photos were posted.  Looks like both vehicles got pummelled on the rocks by some serious wave action.

So should a drivers license renewal.
With enough horse power, sheer ignorance and a total lack of respect for your vehicle, you'll get through....

Unfortunately theres always someone out there that thinks they have what it takes to take on mother nature and put everything at risk.
no sympathy for those who dont get out, take 5 and have a walk over if in doubt the reassess the situation.

Mudlo has been quite easy to get around at high tide lately, the downed trees further along are bit more of a hazard, but going out at night with a cyclone at play was a bit foolish, they should of camped out or taken the freshwater track if possible

Look forward to seeing the pics added to the collage of previous carnage at the surf shop
2010 TTD Landcruiser, i have added stuff but can't remember what! Slowly gettin quicker at setting up the brumby but breaking camp is another matter....
