Question:
What is the advantage of a curved monitor V flat monitor?? Google gives me 2049230489 "reviews and options" that all clash... depending who wrote em.
They seem teh flavour of the minute at the minute, just not sure why....
you can also get some bigger sizes in curved with amazing resolutions...

Thoughts??

Straight screens are for straight people, curved screens are for bent people. ;D

curved ones are bloodu usless apparently they are for immersion and making your screen look bigger but really they are a waste of space, where 1 curved could fill my desk i use 3 and each does their own job for my needs.

I still use a desktop because it has lightroom on it for my photos. It used to run vista but updated it about half a lifetime ago to windows 10. I kinda dig my heels in a bit when the big co's supersede stuff to make you buy more. Oh and I've got a really old laptop that has all my music on iTunes. Stuffed if I can be buggered swapping it over to whatever.

plenty, in my experience...

i just finished building a new mini AMD tower for home, which sits on the desk... new monitors to come...

got 8 years out of my previous tower.  easy (and cheaper) to keep going with incremental upgrades than a laptop.

tower at work, with two 32" monitors...

also have tablets at home, but no laptops.

horses for courses... considering pc components are still much easier to get and fit than laptop parts (and cheaper, normally as well), still a popular option. '!!'

It really depends on what you're doing as to laptop or PC requirements.

I have a custom built PC and a really nice little Dell XPS laptop that I use when I travel for work.
The XPS is a great little unit, with touch screen that flips 180 degrees and works well as a tablet style screen. It's nice and light, and good for doing most normal tasks pretty well.
But, and it's a big BUT, it really struggles running any graphics hungry programs and is basically a brick if plugged into a dock and running multiple screens.

So I use the PC and 2 monitors for all of my day to day work and only use the laptop when traveling.

It's amazing when you sit back and assess it, 1 x desktop, 27" monitor, 3 x iPads, 1 x iPhone and that's just for two people.  ???

Me. A Dell XPS with two 24" monitors. I also have an XPS15 laptop but the desktop makes my job a lot easier.

Seems a few use their computer at home to do work ??
I use mine to surf the web, banking, storing photos.  So only need a laptop.  Could even get away with a tablet, but find them too small for looking at.

Question for all of the landscaping/mower people on here....

Is there any specific reason why ride-on mower decks are alloy instead of mild steel?
Or more specifically is there any reason I shouldn't change mine from alloy to steel?

Reason;
I found a big rock on the weekend and my alloy deck lost the fight.  :o

Can get a replacement steel deck for the same price as an OEM alloy one.
Considering the original deck hasn't even lasted 150 hours. It actually blew the big hole in the side at about 50 hours and several patches have been riveted on there over the years to extend it's life, but it's all over now.
I'm thinking if this was mild steel I could easily cut out the damaged section and replace it with a new piece.

My understanding is that you can easily cast much thicker than you can press, so check the thickness of the steel, if it's welded together it might be ok, if it's pressed out of sheet metal then it is likely pretty thin.

That is why cheap hand mowers are normally steel decked and expensive ones are cast, On a side note the top of the range Honda's actually have a plastic deck, my initial thought was that it would be crap, but a lawn mowing contractor did a comparison of the two, alternating them between lawns, after 4 years, the cast one had worn through, the plastic one was still in good condition though.

Cheers mate.
The deck is all welded from 3mm plate.
The fabricator mentioned higher grade mild steel, but I'm assuming it would just be something like 350 instead of the standard 250 grade. It wouldn't be Bisalloy or anything like that.

I recon I'll go with the steel one, at least I can patch it myself as required.

Jeepers Creepers

My Husky had a fabricated steel deck, much stronger than pressed steel one.

Question: Why don't we paint the back of stop signs red?
Answer: So Jeepers can walk straight into one.

DrewXT

Our Husky and Deutscher H26 both have steel decks...

The Deutscher has been fully replaced over the years (ours is about 27 years old), mostly due to the grass acids and the odd stones completely destroying it.

Last time I priced a new deck it was cheaper to make a new one from better quality steel

Although heights may vary between states, I believe that between 2.4 and 2.5 metres to the bottom edge is the required height above a defined pathway......   You dont look that tall.......  :)
