G'day all,
The name's Rod and we're ( wife and 12 yo ) from Ipswich Qld.  I found this forum while searching for mods to suit our van. She's a late model Jayco swan outback fitted with the factory solar package but not hot water, thus reason for the search.

What a plethora of information this site is, have found many of useful tips and tricks, so thank you to those who have posted these gems of info.

With our set up , we've been to  Moreton and Bribie Islands, Pottsville NSW and to Gordon Country to name a few, and plan to add a few more locations in the not to distant future. Unfortunately, work gets in the way of that, but that's how it is, ay?

The horse we choose to drag our little home away from home is,  a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with the odd mod to it. I won't rabbit on with the specs here, but will say the low ratio's help with dragging the  Jayco arse through the soft stuff when the destination calls for a beach setting.

I will be modding the Jayco to suit our requirements, so intend to jot it down here to keep a log. Nothing big, just minor mods.

Enough of the rambling on, my index finger is getting writers cramp, so I say Hello! to all that read this;D

Rod.

Ditto to oldmate, cause I'm too lazy to think of anything original to write.

If you are thinking of adding hot water have a look at what is available in the instant gas range.  The Jayco/GS style campers usually come with the Truma 14l holding tank style HWS and it doesn't take much to exhaust that supply: we've had many trips where the 4th shower runs cold mid way, and if you have 2 water tanks the hot will run out well and truly before the cold!!

I fitted  a truma gas only unit to my flamingo. It is fantastic. 3 of us shower but I limit the water to a total of 20l this equates to about 5 litres of hot water. I didn't fit an external shower as we find filling a bucket with warm water and using an external shower pump is better. This way you can set up the shower away from the camper and also it uses a lot less water as you can see the water going down in the bucket.

Welcome Hopper
I had an Jayco eagle outback for 5 years and loved it.Only need a few mods
to get to most areas.I didn't get hws either because i would have lost more
valuable storage space.Keg cut in half over a gas burner worked great and was
simple.

Thanks for the welcome all! Is great to be here.....

As for Queenslander, sorry boys but no, an old bluey here, but I do choose to live in this great state! ;D

For you boys regarding the hot water, was thinking of getting one of those on demand units, the one that looks like a little Zip unit that has a gas fitting and water in, water out  on the underside.

Found this on the forum, could be a goer,

Look forward to contributing to the forum.

G,Day Rod welcome to the forum .
Mate after having a twine style vehicle heat exchanger shower set up, we have just set up a different shower with an instant gas heater unit of 8 ltr pm using a 12.5 ltr pm preasure pump ..we have 4 x 25 ltr water drums [ water refill daily no trouble beach camping ] and with the unit set at 40* deg C TO 42* deg C water temp we get 6 minutes of shower time per drum once the hot water unit is primed .. So 4 ltr pm out of the shower head at a reasonable flow preasure ..
