Teach me about Airbrushes

Looking for an airbrush for modelling.. Total beginner without an artistic bone in my body...
Nothing $500 etc, but something reasonable.. I missed out on the Aldi special 3 weeks ago

So whats good, whats bad, what do you look for in an airbrush?

Supercrap auto about $30 from memory for the basic cheapy ones, think the green shed has them too in the air tool isle, as to whats good and to look out for ? never been that into it other than to spray a couple of model planes / cars with a very basic unit turned out ok but no masterpiece due to inexperience  ...
You can get different size needles and nozzels in the higher priced kits to give differing spray paterns etc ..

I used to use one for paint my RC monter trucks but it was a long time ago.  From memory it was just a cheapy.  The Dual Action Gravity feed ones are the best to get.

From a conversation I had with someone about painting a bike frame (treadly) they said, the gravity feed ones are the best.

Don't bother with the cheep stuff from green /supa crap sheds ..
One like the link from   zscooterz is what your after .
Dual action , means it works like a normal spray gun . can have just air and add more or less paint.
learn to paint dots and lines first and build up the colors ..

yea, that's good to know, as its what a mate who builds models for a living (like the ones for Westfields when they are expanding etc)

But don't have that coin to spend.

I reckon you want the one with a pot fixed to the top of the airbrush mate.  No chance of it sucking air through the screw on bits.

Paasche are the Dremel of air brushes and are what everybody used for years. Most of the quality copies are a paasche knockoff

Badger as posted above have also been around for a long time, think they used to make a basic one promoted via humbrol paints? I might even have one Bruce I ll look in the shed but they were pretty basic and only really any good for putting a coat on no fine work.

I have had the same model for years, excellent brush. Even though it is bottom feed, one of the attachments is off to the side and up, making like a gravity feed.
Can't recommend highly enough.

I did a course with them a long time ago, almost 20 years now.
They will teach you heaps, well worth doing.

I have not used mine in a long time.

When I did the course I used it flat out for art projects, last I used it regularly was to paint up slot cars.

which place? both sound totally different styles (I didn't know there were *styles*....)
