Hairs,

I wondered I feel this might just mean more work for you.   Places that suddenly discover they have leaks that need work.  Which can't be done until there is a break in the weather.
It was crazy today.
Long trip round, call after call, didn't get home till 6.30pm, left at 6 am this morning.
To be honest, I love the challenge, I do, solve problems, but hate fixing simple, time wasting stuff ups.
I little harsh, maybe,
I'm thankful for the coin it brings.

Gone to a new home

Was talking to my parents last night, they're all prepared and ready for this big fella to make landfall in the coming days.
Despite the way it often seams, there are many of us that know there is actually life north of the tropic of Capricorn.
My thoughts are with all of you up there, stay safe everyone.

News reports now saying likely to be Cat 4 when it hits...not good for those in it's path.

The radar only tells a small part of the story at the moment, this gives a better idea of what's happening.

Each run is moving it slightly south.
Yesterday afternoon my parents place was in the bulls-eye, and although they have it heading for Townsville at this stage, if it slows down a bit more I say by tomorrow afternoon those in the Burdekin will need to brace themselves.

My oldies sat out Yasi (category 5) bunkered down in their laundry when it hit land just 40km north of their place.
It pealed 2 roofs from houses diagonally across from their place, lucky there was enough trees to stop the debris from hitting their house.
I was only days later that they realized how close they came, 2 bolts holding a post to the bearer on the northern corner of the veranda had snapped, the bearer had been lifting up and smacking back down on the post. We've replaced that whole corner of the veranda, but you never know what else has been done to the structure that you can't see.

We where just saying last night there would be 100s of houses in the area with things loosened up by Yasi.
Anything bigger then a 3 crossing the coast in the Hinchinbrook region would surely find all of those weak spots and the damage could possibly be much, much worse this time.

bit early for much to be happening at the moment isn't it?, they reckon Monday night is likely to be crossing time.

It's the moisture that it is drawing in that will be a worry.

Yeah, on top of the drenching that everything's had over the last few weeks, it could get nasty :'(

if I had a Cat 4 cyclone coming for my house, I'd be watching it from a long way from home myself...lol. The 126kph winds we had here a few years back in a Super cell storm were bad enough with our high set house shaking like it was, bugger being around when something like a Cat 3 or 4 cyclone hits. Our house isn't designed to withstand something like that, I'd come back to see what's left of the place afterwards rather then roll the dice on surviving it.

Like most who've lived for some time up north I've seen a few Cyclones. We had one cat3 that passed by really close off shore. That was pretty wild.
But I was in Currumbin when that supercell smashed the southern Gold Coast one Indy weekend in the early 2000's.
That thunderstorm on the Goldie shat all over anything I've experienced from cyclones up north for intensity. Cyclones are more sustained, but the thunderstorms in SEQ (and other areas) can pack a punch.

When I built my house here on the Sunny Coast I couldn't believe it was so hard to convince my engineer to design it so it would meet cyclone code. ;)

I've been through 3 cyclones and the last one Yasi was something I never want to experience again.
Absolutely terrifying. Stay safe to all who are in the path of this one. Just hope it fizzles out but it doesn't look that way.
