I see that MDC have just released the Aussie Nomad Camper, which is apparently 100% Australian made. I had my heart set on a Trackabout Dakar Extenda, but looking at the specs of the MDC Aussie Nomad it could be a tough decision. Has anyone compared either of these side by side at a show recently? Just wanting to know how the 2 stack up side by side. Pro's and Cons of each I guess.

Its hard to go past a Trackabout. They build a quality product and have great before and after sales service.

Havent had a look at that model MDC, have seen some of their other models and had to deal with them regarding after warranty issues, our experiences were not positive.

My thoughts are that you buy what suits you and makes you happy. Personally I would go trackabout every time, they have a long history of quality product and many satisfied customers. If trackabout was within my budget when I was looking at walkthru style campers, I would not have hesitated to buy one.

If the Trackabout Safari Dakar is in your sights the you are looking to be spending$35000.00 +. You won't go past Trackabout for build quality etc. I would also be looking at Customline. They have excellent before and after sales service. They have an exceptional quality product and you will pick it up for less than the Trackabout. Just my option.
The Bear made me do it!!

No contest - Trackabout hands down. Quality, Aussie Company, never met or heard of an unhappy owner.

The main difference for me is when we're out camping in ours, we never have thoughts of what someone else has.

Our CT has everything we need and expect it to be something we have forever.

Take the names away and compare features, build quality, price etc. then make your decision.

All may look very similar but Trackabout , Customline, Mountain Trail etc have a superior product with excellent reviews on customer service, both before and after you've purchased. Have a quick search on MDC's customer feedback.  It's a little touch and go IMO.

Hi Campertrailer,

The MDC Nomad Trailer component is made my Metlink at Meadowbrook www.metlink.com.au , same company Trackabout, Lifestyle & Modcon use to/or have made make parts for their camper trailers up until MDC Secured a very large contract with them. Powdercoating is done at one of the best powdercoaters in town at Richlands and is rock solid. The canvas tent is made in house at MDC by an ex Customline supplier with wax converters canvas www.waxcon.com.au . ALL 100% Australian Made in Brisbane.

As this is a new model, there is far less customers out there as compared to the rest of our campers.
So far reviews have been positive and there is a bunch of features combined not seen in other Australian made trailers at the 35K mark, including TV, Porta Potti, Media System, Slide Out BBQ, Slide & Swing out Fridge Slide, Hot + Cold Water, Cooper AT3 Tyres all round, dual spare wheels etc.  The MDC Nomad has revolutionary in house designed concealed hinge system on the side door compartments and it makes a very attractive looking smooth lines down both sides of the trailer.

The trailer has already been put through its paces in the VIC High Country with 4WD Action and came through unscathed.

"campertrailer" should you require a viewing in person, please come down to our Brisbane showroom at 1/8 Boyland Ave, Coopers Plains and we'll be more than happy to show you through.

Happy Camping ;)

Trackabout Off Road Campers

MDC insider,

Whilst I don't disagree with you selling your product to a customer through a public forum, I think it's definitely poor form to assume we utilise the same laser cutting/metal working company as you mentioned. From here on I would advise you have your facts in order before you make an assumption like you did.

There's a good reason we don't take the sales pitch over the forum and If you take a look at the past comments on this post you'll know exactly where I'm coming from.

These forums are designed for the public to explain their experiences both good and bad when looking for a camper from whatever manufacturer, this is when track record, customer service and reputation come in to play. I think the showroom floor is more what you are looking for when selling your product on this forum.

Back to work  Dave!

Trackabout all the way baby!!!

I don't see what MDC did wrong? except for the remark regarding Trackabout parts being made in same factory as their Nomad unit if this is untrue...

The original poster asked specifically about the nomad product? Different story if the OP asked a generic question not specifying any brands and MDC popped up with their sales pitch... ???

Any way good luck with your decision mate...
