We've been going through our old pics and putting them on the computer and came across a pic of my Sandman Panel Van at the old Woree Drivein  in Cairns.

Got me thinking how many are still operating today.
Mmmmm those were the days. ;D ;D

There were a number of them at one stage in Adelaide. Now just one.

We're due to visit in a few weeks.

The SWMBO and I are regulars at the Yatla drive in which is between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. We have a great little set up in the back of the car.

I think there is a Hoyt's in the NW suburbs in Melbourne.

We use to go there when my daughter was young.

We saw Terminator Salvation there. It was great. She would fall asleep, we had a couple of cold ones, I would duck out for a Winnie Blue, you can talk, scratch, fart and pretty much do what ever you want.

Try doing that at a regular cinema.

aswell as the Yatala one on Southside of Brisbane, there's also the Tivoli one just near Ipswich (West of Brisbane) still going i believe

i was doing a search to see if the one near Gympie was still operating or not and found this list http://www.drive-insdownunder.com.au/australian.htm , would be interesting to see how many are still operating now as looking at this list it may be out of date, doesn't mention Tivoli as being open which i'm sure it is, as i saw pics on a weather website showing some awesome lightning pics with the movie running there from about a week ago

I think the Mareeba drive-in is still going.

Speaking of Sandmans, always wanted one but couldn't raise the cash.   :'(

I recall as a young fella going to a twin drive in in Melbourne, though can't remember which one. I was with my girlfriend of the time and a mate, who'd recently been dropped by his girlfriend.

Unknowingly I took a wrong turn inside the drive-in and we started watching the movie, all three thinking, this doesn't seem like the movie we'd come to see (can't remember the title now - 35 years ago). It turns out we'd parked up at Emmanuelle: L'antivierge.

Anyhow, poor old mate in the car is bedside himself with pent up angst, he's in my panel van, there's three of us, and a girl sitting in the car beside us  alone, on her own, all by herself but he's still mourning the old girlfriend and couldn't bring himself to approach the girl in the car next door.

Ah, it was funny 35 years ago!

We just came home about an hour ago from the heddon greta drive in. We took the kids to see frozen. I think I slept through most of it. We went with friends who all complained about my alleged snoring. We lay the rear seats of the xtrail flat blow up an air bed and put the kids in the back. The missus and I set ourselves up with seats table and a few froffies. Can't beat it. $30 for the 5 of us. It costs $80 or more to got to a picture theatre.

I remember going to the dromana drive in when I was a kid. I took the missus there about 12 years ago.

Used to love going to the drive ins with mum and dad as a kid, it was always a real treat. Sadly there's only three (I think) left in Melbourne: Coburg, Dandenong and Dromana.
Dromana has 3 screens and is hugely popular especially over summer with all the holidaymakers on the peninsula. We've taken the kids a few times and its a great atmosphere.

Thanks guys. How good was it to pull up, fit the speakers and adjust to how loud you wanted them.
Great way to watch a movie if you watched a movie.  ;D.

The good thing about drive in is that if you don't like the movie you can slash the seats ;D

Love the Tors drive-in. Good  people, cheaper than cinemas, & great food there as well. Whenever we plan to camp at Bivouac, we try and time it for a good movie as well. The kids love it.

With enough horse power, sheer ignorance and a total lack of respect for your vehicle, you'll get through....

All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.
