I put one of these photos up on my 4wd build thread, but thought more would be able to enjoy these fantastic photos through here.

Long story short this is SWMBO car getting pulled out of the Hume Dam on sunday afternoon.
basically lost traction, slid back a meter or two, the empty gas tank provided buoyancy and the car decided to float away with the trailer attached.
My other half chucked it in park, climbed out through the window whilst I ran to get the patrol.
By the time I got the patrol down to the ramp the car was underwater a good 30m away from the edge and we couldn't get down deep enough to attach a strap.
As it turned out, this particular ramp is supposed to be able to be used when the dam is at 5% and it was at 99%. So the concrete is a good 200m or so in length which is why the car went so far.
When the Divers turned up, from the top of the bullbar to the top of the water was 2.8m, from the towbar to the top of the water was 5m, so it gives you a good idea of how steep the ramp actually is.

All this happened in less than 3min, and whilst embarrassing, was definitely out of anyones control.

We found out from the divers, they have pulled out around 3 cars in the last couple of weeks alone.

Anyway have a giggle and enjoy the photos. If I can work out how to upload videos I will put a couple up.

I don't think it would be. Two tow trucks, council response, divers, closed boat ramp for 6 hours.
Yep, gotta love insurance.

All of us are just surprised she fit through the window whilst pregnant.
don't know whats happening with the insurance yet, but there isn't that much too it so should be ok.

Thanks for sharing, funny and frightening at the same time. Glad your wife is fine.

Yep, if you've got video you could well win a new Pajero with it.

Unfortunately we only have videos of it being pulled out, none of it sinking.

Hind site I would have video'd it but more worried about trying to save the car at that point

No worries with sharing, we are trying to laugh about it now. On the upside, I get to do all the towing now. She's band haha

X2.

You are a very brave man to share!   ;D

Well I figured if I share it, I may beat the other couple of hundred gawkers that were watching and filming it being pulled out.

Were you trying one of those mythbusters tests.

Can my pregnant wife fit through a window of a sinking car.
how longdoes a car take to sink.
Whatsthe best form of escape.
all queries now answered fully, the testing is complete.  Now you have all the answers (to just some of life's issues)?
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

Shoulda had a snorkel, ya could've driven it out.

I do feel sorry for you both.

Ironically, all we could talk about afterwards was the mythbusters episode on being trapped in a sinking car.
yes even though she is pregnant, she can still fit through the window.
the car takes around 3 min to fully sink,
and personally I would have just opened the door, but her reasoning was she was trying to keep the water out. haha

Cheers for the sentiment, its appreciated.
I don't know if a snorkel would have helped when the water was more than a meter over the roof haha.
Ahh well, it could always have been worse.

I am still trying to get the videos to upload though, does anyone know the best way?

Thanks guys,
yeah it was pretty freaky, and I have to admit all things considered she did really well to stay calm and get out before I managed to even run the couple of hundred meters to her.
the funny part was my 1 and a half year old was really confused as to why the car was floating away, he kept pointing at it making funny noises. Like dad, thats not right.......

Thanks for sharing - brightened up my Friday ('cause who doesn't like a smile at someone else's expense).
