I havent shopped for car audio in years... so out of touch by a long shot.

So my headunit is rooted... wont play discs anymore.. started off skipping, but now since I tried to fix it  its knackered

So went to Autobarn, and JB Hi Fi to see what they had.

The dude started saying since I 4wd Im better off without a CD/DVD player all together - Digital Media Players...  ??? ???  Never heard of such a thing since Cassettes.

Anyway for $100 I can get one with USB, for $200 can get bluetooth, USB and other **** I dont know about.. I got 10's thousands of MP3's, so dont need CD anymore..

They have them with a tray that fits I Phone in them - you ppress button, thing pops out like a car kit, clip phone in and push back in...

Anyone see any glaring reason not to buy one without a CD/DVD player??

Go for it mate you'll never look back carry your entire music collection on something the size of your pinky. CDs and DVDs will be a distant memory before long. Couldn't remember the last time we hired a movie, 5 years or more I'd guess

Also look for one's that have SD card, I find it easier to transfer music to, do not have to worry about folders

USB is definitely the way to go. No more scratch/jumping CD, you won't look back

We run stereo's with no CD in our trucks, dad hasn't quite cottoned on to the USB idea, but I love it, the portability is great, never skips and a true shuffle of all tracks.

I haven't used my 6 stacker CD for a number of years. I just plug my iPhone into the car's sound system and away I go. My Fairmont, now 10 years old had provision for playing music or a GPS through the sound system built-in. I just had to buy a cable that cost me less than $20.00 to make it all happen. The more modern units with USB... sweeeeeeet. Go for it. You won't regret it.  ;D

fabulous

we got a system which had CD/ DVD with reverse camera, also has a USB so we can play via the Ipod / Iphone. Came from Autobarn - they had a deal that it came with a free reverse camera.

If your buying a new head unit spend the extra and make sure you can blue tooth your music and answer your phone on it.

Just went for look around Ringwood to Blackburn/Nunawading.. Nobody had anything - like Staff...
The only place I could ask questions was JB in the Super Center on springy and whitehorse

Back to teh kid at Autobarn in Frankston, he was VERY VERY helpful yesterday.. He wins.

In the end I still stuck with Autobarn Franga.

I didn't go with the Media Player only gig, as none under 400 had bluefang, but will be out end of month :(

I went with this unit, that still has USB and other stuff and can play DVD's through to the overhead console too if the kids want if the DVD player in the o/head unit plays up...

It Died :( Thing called Pico Fuse, which is the size of a Gnats peepee, and easier to throw than replace.
