Sounds simple enough, hopefully you don't need past history to do it online.??

Yes, but you will have to verify her details somehow within the system, it tells you how.

Just got an email from the ATO... *gulp*.  Opened it with eye closed... It was just a reminder about e-tax... *phew*

Anyway it quotes "You will need your previous notice of assessment to verify your identity. If you cannot find your notice of assessment, you can use details from your payment summaries, dividend or bank statements"

Off to buy a lotto ticket now...

i dont have to lodge returns but i do my wife's and have been doing etax for the last 4-5 yrs as well with excellent results, normally have return within a fortnight without fail, this year lodged on 4th july (on my PC) and had return in bank last night, 6 working days.

Can't use etax with a Company return and investments on top but the kids use it now after I worked through it with them. Basically it's for PAYG taxpayers and as I recall you just need to watch the Private Health/Mediucare section, particularly with kids under 25 and studying and hence still under mum and dad's private HI, lest it leads them up the garden path. Refer carefully to the guide when the kids hit that section. The ATO know what they're after to discern what particular health box they're in but it's as clear as mud for the uninitiated.

Thats why its better to pay the tax deductible $170 and get the professionals to do it.  They will know the ins and outs far better and you dont have the agro.  Went to get mine done the other night and ended up with a 3k return.

I run Avast AV software and yesterday when trying to open Etax it gave a Malware warning and deleted Etax from my system!!

Tried to reinstall and Avast wouldn't let it happen.  Checked online and several other Avast users have reported the same problem.

Deleted Avast, load AVG anti virus and reloaded Etax.

So , I hope the problem was with Avast and not the taxman adding a virus to his software!!

*2. With 3 dependants, medicare, health insurance, travel expenses, work expenses etc it is a small price to pay to know that I WON'T be getting a visit from the audit office later in the year!

yea, read earlier in the thread why I would rather be a hairdresser than "pay EXPERTS"......... My dog could do better than the last 2 experts I've been to. They got me 3000 back too....

Bonnie and I use Etax and have been doing so for a few years. We don't have a lot of deductions so it is straightforward to do.

Sent the returns in last Tuesday, received the refund today, eight days after lodgement, you can't complain about that.

You do not need last years assessment just a recent one, which you have.

easy as to do, i did mine and wifey did hers last night, took about 2hrs total.
going through it though am wondering what i am missing out on with all the various sections that appear.  :D
smile and wave boys..... :)

cruisindub

I'll do my wife's online. Sit down in Friday and do it with no distractions.
she's only worked 6 weeks this past financial year and won't have any deductions, so should be easy to complete.
I agree with you yorkie, got to wonder what your missing out on otherwise.
Anyhow, save $100+gst on paying an accountants assistant to do it for us.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

<GULP> Dare I say AUDIT?

Nah just kidding, probably sounds about right.  Murphy's law it'll be in the account tomorrow.

Lj,

Audit was my thinking as well. I don't claim for much now, too cautious after getting into trouble a few years back. Only claim $555 & a few cents

I have done the e-tax but I have to check it again.
It seems that the pre-tax payment for my novated lease isn't there.

They are waiting for me to pay my tax bill. Before giving you your refund.!

Probably something like when you transfer money out of one of your bank accounts and into another of yours and its take out straight away, but only cleared into your other about 3 days later.
they are playing with your money and utilizing the interest in using it.

Probably not right, but it sounds plausible.  Biggest load of legal crooks and thieves.

mine is reflected in the lower taxable income figure shown on the group certificate, ie: my  gross income shown on the group cert is approx 12k less than what my annual salary is.
