I concur with the comment of Well Done Brett.  The patronage of this site is friendly, knowledgeable, and for the most part sensible.  The occasion members like me throw in some ridiculous (not offensive) comments sometimes, but that is just me.

I just approved a whole bunch of newbies but can't say who was 10000th. When I finished we had 10014. I should of been more careful and done them one at a time. I don't think the member number correlates anymore either. Oh well.

Either way Snow you are managing to help build one of the best forums there is.  Admittedly I am not addicted, it is just a requirement of mine to check the site at least once daily when I can.  I also like the fact that I can allow my grandkids to look at this site knowing they will not be exposed to anything they should not see.

I've got no idea why so many have joined.  Great forum, great members, great places to visit reported, great info, friendly environment, camping oriented, 4wd oriented, food oriented, beer oriented ... nope ... no idea at all.   ;D

Well Done to all the members for making such a wonderful place ... without you it's no forum at all ...   :cup:

They might have to put traffic lights up the cape if that many went in one group.
I wonder if the 10000 members reflect the change in the way Australians, are now planing there holidays, not just being a fly in, fly out tourist.

GU_Thomo

No wonder that since I joined in 2007 I have gone from 15 - 20 min/day and reading everything to hours a day and only reading a fraction of the new posts.

The problem is that's it such a diverse and informative forum which we all love and then tell all our mates, well done to all for such a great place.

BigJules

It is a fine acheivement.

Regretably an analysis of the member base suggests that whilst our membership is growing, participation is not keeping up:
10% of registered members have never actually logged in
58% have never posted (inc the 10% who have never logged in)
23% have posted less than 10 times

The top 10 posters, including myself, have contributed 17% of the total posts, and of that top 10 I'd suggest three of those members have left or would rarely contribute now.

I would love to understand more about why someone might join but never post, or who drop out quickly.

I don't believe that post count is the best reflection of interest, it may simply be an indicator of how bored you are at work or home ;) , so I haven't published these stats to encourage people to post up necessarily. I have gained so much knowledge from this forum, but by far my greatest gain has been the friendships I have developed.

You don't have to post up, but I do encourage all members to get involved. Go to a meet, organise one yourself. It doesn't matter if you've been a member on here for 5 minutes; if you'd like to put your hand up to go somewhere and invite along others folks you've never met or would like to meet again, GO FOR IT !!!

Your last paragraph sums it up for me BJ.

Getting involved off site with anyone is a key ingrediant of getting extra value out of myswag.

I wonder how many just join up to see the trip reports?  Is it still correct that you need to join to see them? (12 months ago since I joined,  ive forgotten).

Catch you all around the traps for a Stones! As BJ says, GO FOR IT.

Agreed, 20 years ago I joined a 4wd club to meet like minded people as the Interweb forum stuff wasn't around. I dropped my 4wd club membership the other year as I was going on more trips with forum members than club trips.

I should also add that there are lots of folks on here that I am keen to meet up with still.

Well done to all,
It's great to be part of it.
Yeah I agree BigJules, Get out there and have a crack at it, there are members everywhere, bound to be a trip, weekend or even overnight happening somewhere and if there isn't organize one yourself, it might surprise you how many will turn up.
Good Stuff.

You don't use magic to disappear, all you need is a 4wd & a Swag ;)
