Sorry to hear you bad news, remember to check the various websites such as carsales etc to see if the low life scum try to sell it. I have heard of a few people  who have got their possesions back by posing as buyers, they have viewed the item , confirmed it is theirs and then called the cops

Unfortunately this happens too often, perhaps we need a "Stolen CT" register... While they can remove the Rego plate, the VIN is harder .

Craig, a check of your insurance or Rego papers might be helpful.
