Up around Walwa this year (Upper Murray River), and it's starting to become popular (that caravan isn't from our mob) but still plenty of waters-edge camping.  Noted the Parks guy was definately not a fan of the rock-ring fireplaces (which is ok by me).  There seems to be plenty of tracks between there and Kosciosko that need to be explored further as well.

We had it pretty good. Camped on the mitta mitta river.....at mitta mitta  :D got there early Wednesday, so had the pick of the spots. We grabbed one couldn't really be invaded, although one group assured me that it was THEIR camp spot  >:D and did make it uncomfortable to stay the first night  :-[ in the end, all was good, everyone was happy

I agree with this sentiment.

It happened to us a few weeks ago.  An older couple told us "This is our spot.  We always get this spot."  To which I thought: Gee Whizzy (or thereabouts).  I asked the gent if he was willing to fight for it (LOL!) as a lark and he walked away (I was picturing duelling walking sticks at 5 paces).

We didn't want the spot anyway, but I did think it was rather rude ... considering it was us and them in the entire campground.  The only reason they weren't actually in the site was because we were parked where they needed to turn around ... to get out of their way on the road, so they could get through to the campground!   >:(

Yes they had a caravan.
Yes the site was right beside the road (hence us using it to get out of their way).
Yes they would have been awoken at 0630 when the first of the cars came through.  Either that or the very long early morning trip to the loo did it.

I wonder what he would have done if we were already set up there?   >:D

The quetion begs to be asked, an offroad camper at a campground isnt that a big no-no? lol I put aside a day to get to a spot, half aday to relocate if there is any more than a few others there. Born and bred in the country but having to live in the city, due to work (ok Albury is not quite the city lol) I dont mind screwing around the Patrol and camper trl through and over all sorts of ground to get away from the rest of the Urban Cowboys/girls.
I also find that most will seek out a river or dam etc for the close to the water thing. So I look to the hills for the views etc. Nothing better than this time of year for the snow and fogged in weather to sleep in that little it longer.

Just got back from a three day "work" trip and found a heap of really good spots and will be heading off on a couple of swag recons to check it out further.
Will post in trips etc when I head off for anybody interested, expect a good half day drive from Albury with alot off of hmmm I think I can make it moments.

Oh and if you dont like snow and minus temps it may not be for you.

We headed up to Lemon Tree Passage for 4 days just before the long weekend.
Left just in time on the Thursday, before everyone else in NSW arrived :)

This is a pic from the night before, just as the place was starting to completely fill up!

Nice pic that. I think it would bug most people if someone told them that was our site. Try mirroring their argument back at them eg "this is our site because we always camp here" well this must be our site because we always camp here too and we were here first so that must just prove it! Some people are just so self centred that they think know the whole world revolves around them.

We camped at Borumba Deer Park the week before Easter with my son, his wife and eight children...had a ball even though it rained on and off.

Hi,
down the Border run in Ngarkat CP in SA, west along red bluff into Vic, north towards Murryville, around most of the Big desert in NW Vic, then along the firebreak track to the top of the border run, saw a few vehicles here and there but mostly just had the place to ourselves, good to see some country not seen before and not sorry we skipped the pink lakes and the crowds, will include that in a future trip not on a long weekend
this picture (camp) was at white springs where I couldn't resist undoing the dual cab from the trailer and having a play,
all on our lonesome here on the Monday night
cheers
Garry
