Well I just took delivery of a bearing puller kit for my bikes = happy dance. No more cursing and swearing because I can't remove bottom brackets or sealed bearings from my race wheels.  ;D

What's wrong with a flat blade screwdriver and a hammer? :)

Well, the Zipp hubs have a tube in between the bearings and you can't place anything against a flat surface, that's what.  :P  ;D

I've been quiet in this thread of late and lockdown has sent me a little silly. Given the price of wood is so high and even then there's limited supply, I decided to turn my attention to bikes. I've now got a few projects on the go :)

'91 Paconi Reynolds 531, made by Kevin Wigham, matching frame & fork serial numbers, needs a repaint, already have a Shimano 600 6400 groupset for it

Kenevans Professional hiding under the rust and crap paint, I believe it's a Mal McPherson made frame, Cinelli lugs and unknown tubing probably Columbus SL, don't yet have it waiting for end of lockdown to collect, unknown plan for this as I don't yet know it's full condition, it was cheap :)

'89 Eddy Merckx Columbus SLX Team Domex, original paint with matching frame & fork serial numbers, leaving in survivor condition, already have a Shimano Dura Ace 7402 groupset for it

And the pièce de résistance, '96 Eddy Merckx MX-Leader, original paint with matching frame & fork serial numbers, fitted with Campagnolo Record Titanium, currently on the slow boat from Germany

Yeah the team bikes were made by the best frame builders in the factory to exacting tolerances, they didn't come off the standard production line. Don't know yet how the Team Domex rides. I have a Colnago Team Ariostea and even on 23mm tyres it rides amazing.

Nice, love an old bike resto. That pista stem will keep things interesting. Don't use the front brake too hard, you might need to visit the dentist :)

Never had a problem in my youth with it.  ??? I also used to run them the opposite to modern thinking but changed them around so that I don't get caught out jumping from my newer bikes onto this one.  :o

It was a custom build, back in 81 and the frame was $275 the wheels $175, crank around $80, rubber was $50 a piece, so I wonder what that converts to todays pricing, because that was near 2mths pay back then.  ???

It's 42 years since I rode a treadle but your resto brought back a lot of memories Foo, I had a bike custom built in 77 by Crannafords in Adelaide, it cost me just on $800 from memory.  What struck home was the gear levers on the bar ends. Sadly it was destroyed 2 years later, got cleaned up.

I know that feeling, this one replaced another that was only about 3mths old, when I was hit by a truck from behind.  :'( I ran the bar end levers, because I could change gears and not take my hands off the bars and also, no-one could see when I went bigger or smaller for sprints or attacks.  ;D
