Melbourne sure has the strangest weather hey Speewa!! The sky went black, torrential rains came down, flooded the street's and caused mayhem, now the sun is shining, just like it never even happened  ???

I cant wait to go to the worksite tomorrow, we are about to dig a 700m2 basement and the rain over the last couple of days will ensure a canoe is required tomorrow. The weather gods are a little crazy for sure in Melbourne at the moment, there is another front about to hit with some more heavy rain possible.

Well you all know what they say about the weather down here.

If you don't like the weather in Melbourne you just wait a minute
  ;D ;D

I started yesterday in overcast sky , solid raintill 10.30am ,sunny till 2.30pm . Then the black storm clouds rolled in , wind , monsoonal rain , lightning , thunder  & flash floods . To finish the day off sunny , warm , blue sky only a few clouds . As they say if you dont like the weather hang around it will change  ;D

Well, I think we have had just under 700mm of rain in 2 weeks and 2 days, and this morning I woke up to showers and thunder.  More on the way.

Dont you just love the tropics???. Just checked the rain gauge and poured out 300mm (12") and that was from Tuesday at 5pm. Just about had enough of the rain. I have to laugh when the guys down south talk about 40-50mm. Livio ( CH7 weatherman) said weve had 510 mm for the month of November which is a record compared to 500 mm back in 2000.

Anyone heard from Nick08, Sherlock or Symon?  I think Nick08 is over in East Mackay but I don't know where Sherlock and Symon live.

I hear the Pioneer River, if it is not in flood, is very close to it.  It is still raining very heavy here.  Goosepond Creek will be over the banks by now.

Oh for some sunny weather.  I don't remember what it is like.

Its not the amount we are complaining about, it's how fast it has been coming down, yesterday we got 30mm in a matter of minutes, we are not used to that sort of stuff you know, we've been in a drought for years so very very happy to see the rain  ;D

We have had 160 mm since yesterday afternoon. Roads cut everywhere and already reports of vehicals stuck in creeks. We can't even get out of the farm as there is about 3/4 of a metre of water over our road, which is higher than the 2008 floods ( only because of local rain). Fairbairn dam is 94 cm over the spillway and rising so the townfolk are nervous again. The radar shows that the bulk of the rain has gone over us and heading to the coast so it looks heavy for Bowen,Mackay and south.

Something broke in the front of the 4 wheeler motobike this morning so now its a 2 wheeler which is not real good in the black clay. I should still try to get out and take some photos.

Cannot believe this rain!!!!!  And soooo at the wrong time of year here  :'(

The poor farmers here had the best crops for about 10 years and now they are stuffed well and truly.  Poor buggars.

Hope everyone keeps safe no matter where you are.

I think we had about 4 inches up to 9am this morn. Im over at Rural View, Northern Beaches. I think Symon is out at work at the moment towards Glenden, thats if he can get back as the road floods frequently.

Thanks Angus.  I hope you are dry there.

My son manages a cattle property at Nebo (about 120k west of Mackay) and he cannot even leave the house yard.  His wife is due to give birth early next week, so he might have to brush up on his mid-wifery skills if this rain keeps up.   If Symon is out at the mines, he won't be able to get back for a couple of days.

I hope for everyone's sake the clouds roll out to sea.

Cheers

Thanks for thinking of me! I take it Narromine is not under any threat?

We're expecting minor flooding to occur tomorrow, with it hanging around till Monday. It might cut us off but I'm not sure at this stage. There's plenty of water around, we've got nice water views but luckily, the levy bank is keeping the tide back! Then there is the forecast for more rain, so, we'll have to wait and see. I'm still predicting that we'll be Wee Waa Island by Christmas.

Lots of sad faces in town though, plenty of farmers here have lost crops around here. Its pretty devastating really. I'm hoping that this wet weather will at least set them up for a few good years, however.

Duchess  As you said the end of the drought eseally comes with a huge dump to clean out the dregs of the water . Then the systems settle down to a more normal weather pattern to follow.
There will be ground water again more normal rain & seasons  (  I really hope  )

If only we could pump the water over the hills, we will have a super broadband but........

On the coast here we get plenty but its just has to travel a couple of hundred metres to the big pond.

As bad as it is for the farmers, those with crop on the ground, that crop turned back in will ensure with a little rain next season there will be plenty of crop about, but.... that will bring the prices down. Farming would be a great way to make a living but gee it would be a bugger of a way to make a living.

Cheers Pauly

Yes I would hate to be a farmer at the moment. ;D

The water came to within less than a metre off going over our levy around the houses and sheds yesterday so I really hope it doesn't rain again. We have water views like you Duchess. The Comet River is at the bottom of our farming country and it is above the 2008 flood level and rising so not good. Im sure we are losing crop but I can not get anywhere as the bike is bogged about 1 km from the house. The Nogoa River is the other side of us and its holding steady, just below the 2008 flood level. I dont think the Nogoa will give us to much trouble. Lots of people with water in houses and lots of crop damage and losses so if you like farmers spare a thought otherwise keep going about your business. Im ready to move to a farm in the hills somewhere.
