Has anyone tried the Camp5 POI file and loaded it into a supported GPS (particularly a NavMan) ?  Does it work well - accurate coordinates to the sites listed in the book ?

campjunkie

I haven't loaded the POI its self
but i did a trip last year using the book and punching the coordinates into the garmin 99% of the time they were spot on
there was the odd one out of whack but i would just put in to a misprint or or something
example:
Mount shank free rest area
if you put the coordinates from the book in you end up in the middle of the quarry
which is just down from the rest area, close but not spot on

I have thousands of POI's for Evey campsite in Australia
caravan parks
pet friendly camp and caravan sites
national parks camp sites
free and legally available on the internet that covers pretty much what the book has
and much more
I would like that POI file but I see GPSOZ sell the poi file for $19.95 if you can prove you have the book
i bought mine new at a flee market for $10 no receipt

GPSOZ has good products and i use some of there maps etc you won't have any problems using that POI file
from them i would go with it

Here is a free Independent camping spots POI available for free

Everyone is gifted - but some people never open their package

Brian from GPSOz loaded my Camps 5 at the same time he installed OzTopo on my in dash Garmin.
The few times we have used the Camps 5 POI's (east coast NSW only) they have been fine.

Recently downloaded the file to my Garmin GPS (1490) and it seems to work well.

It also 'appears' on the MapSource program that came with the GPS which makes trip planning quite easy.

I added the camps5 file from GPSOZ to Dad's Nuvi 5000 and it spot on 99.9% of the time,  the odd time it is wrong the book is also wrong.  I have it on my Explorist XL came with the last upgrade and that option works for me.

Hi,

Downloaded it onto our TomTom using the TomTom Home feature. Haven't used it yet. There was also Nat Parks and Cara Parks I think - will have to plug it back into computer and have a proper look.

Hey guys, I have a Navman 300T.  Can that program be downloaded to my GPS too?  I know zero about them and need all the help I can get.

Camps 5 POI File

A mate asked me if i could load is CAMPS5.GPI file
onto his garmin nuvi for him, which i did

Anyhow after having a look around we notice these 2 Waypoints
where way off coarse  ;D
and i mean WAY OFF
have a look for yourself

What i would like to know if those of you have the CAMPS5 POI file
could you check yours on the gps and view map to see if they are the same
or did my mate just get a corrupt file

Or is the planets serface shifting  ;D

I checked the Coordinates and they are wrong in the file
i just did not think these 2 would be this far out or whack

and if these 2 waypoints are so off
i wonder how many more are not even close

I can easily fix it, that is no a problem
but do i need to check the whole lot 8)

yes you can you need the POI extension to be *.CVS as they must be Navman CSV NOT Garmin CSV etc. format
and then just use your NavDesk Desktop program "active sync" to load the file or files as custom poi's onto your gps

Camps and Vans

Anybody looking for a new POI file for all GPS units, check out my new web site www.campsandvans.com I have spent nearly 3 years compiling the data.

The site provides information and GPS coordinates for thousands of camping and caravan sites and Dump Sites around Australia (approx 7,200+), including Google Maps Views, Pictures, Maps, Brochures and reviews.(approx 7,700+)

The information on this site has been collated since 2008, when I got my first GPS.

At that time we had been a avid user of the printed form from many books and maps etc, I wanted to fully utilise the functionality of my Garmin Nuvi, so I searched for anything that was available to purchase.

After extensive travelling around Australia I found that whilst the Custom POI information available to purchase was good, I felt that it did not meet the particular needs for camping and caravanning enthusiasts, as you can never have too much information to share with fellow travellers.

Hence I started to produce my own, using my vast array of maps and information that I had collected over our many years of travelling. Little did I know that it was going to take me over 2 years to get something that I was happy with.

So enjoy what we have produced and if you find any of the information to be incorrect please advise me, so that we can adjust them for the benefit of all of our members.

Thanks
Greg

I got it loaded on to my 1490t last week, but have not seen the POI's on Map Source - is there something I have to click on etc etc.

Hi Lindsay

You can't load the gpi file to Map Source you need a gdb file to load within Map Source.
