terravista

I have 2 versions,
See if you can guess which one is true.

1.  I wanted to relate my forum name to my dream of looking at the astounding scenery while travelling our beautiful country, our Australian version of Terra Vista
Then I thought of cutting it back to TV, but thought people would think I was fixated with wasting my time watching television, so wanted to avoid confusion and decided to change it to TB because B rhymes with V, and if you say it fast, it sounds alike..
TB had connotations to the horrible disease with the same initials, so that thought was subsequently amended to CB to relate to communications with other vehicles while looking at our scenery.
I decided that CB was old technology so I slipped it to UHF, which signified newer technology, but some friends thought that UHF was long life milk, and that could get changed to cow juice.
Not wanting to be associated with mad cow disease, I wanted to relate it to a better class of animal, and looked at names like Werewolf.
I used to have books when I was a little tinker that featured Brer Rabbit and his gay pals, and thought that Brer was a bit too close to Were, so decided to head in another direction.
Recently, while driving on some slippery tracks with high falls from the side, the car slipped so one wheel went over the edge, and only the sidestep digging into the wet clay prevented us from plunging down a 100m drop.
I developed a bad case of the shakes and had the horrible feeling of terror looking over the valley far below, and thought that even though it was an intensely dangerous position, it was a nice view, so I adopted Terror View, and decided to use a version of that, but decided to make it a bit romantic by changing it to a Mediterranean name, Terra Vista.

2.  The company I work for does a little bit of land development, and we registered the company as Terra Vista, so I use that email address for net surfing at work, and I can remember it easier.

graylyn

Terravista, I prefer option 1.  Option 2 doesn't ring true to me.

Mine has evolved over the years. Only other forum that I frequented was EO and when I first started there I was Alpaca as it is loosely my name. Few people started to work out who I was so needed another name which became Al Symers because the brain cells aren't what they used to be. Forgot the pass word so needed an new Avatar. When typing, I'd often hit the wrong key and I would say to myself, "Bloody Dyslexia again" So became Des Lexic and have been that for a few years now. When people call me Des, I answer without thinking LOLOLOL

Farquo

Start of surname with an o added at the end.

slightly OT
Son, James, joined hockey team. 2 other James on the team so each had to have different name. Others became Bushy and Wally, my James briefly became Farquo. Teenagers with mouthguards calling to each other soon meant that he needed another name - Jimmy

Conventional wisdom - always conventional, sometimes wise.

RebsWA

REB is my initials and I was often called Rebs in a past life. Just added WA as its where I'm from.

This is a timely post.  Back in 1989 when I did my first trip up to Cape York with friends we had T-shirts made up with Gunnado Tours on it.  When I joined this forum and was trying to work out a good username, Gunna Do came to mind.

Grungle

Mine came from a dog that was in a book by Robert G Barrett. It was an ugly but tough mutt and I loved the name. Originally it was a nickname for our first 4wd but it was also used for our second and current 4wd. Have used it for nearly 20 years and is great because it is not common and is rarely taken on the various forums I frequent.
