Mcgirr,

Yeah I think 2 gerrys would be enough for just going up the Cape, but as my travels before or after the Cape will be out through the gulf and down west I like the extra fuel for safety.

Been stuck at servos in the past (Cape Crawford) & Laramin in the NT with no fuel available for the day and i hate it so I like to carry enough fuel to get between the two furtherest fuel points on my travels.

Might be overkill but the last thing I want is to be stuck somewhere because they have no fuel or a faulty bowser.

On the east coast all seems good but once you hit as you know the Gulf and NT fuel can be hit and miss.

I won't fill em till we get up there to save fuel consumption. Maybe at ISA or the like.

Better lock your car to mate I'd love a V8 LOL

If you are a good boy I will let you have a drive. It does drink fuel around town but on trips it is not bad. I have never done any measurements on what the economy I get as it does not worry me as I like the power and we tow a horse float with 3 horses.

I have dragged a couple of cars off at the lights sometimes just to feel the power. One day i will grow up.

Mcgirr,

I concur with your POWER comment, I had a 3LTR Patrol for a few years and I asked a bit much of her on a few trips and she started getting a bit hot whilst towing so I thought long and hard about a replacment.

I ended up with the 4.5 100 series based on power and price rather than fuel economy . I know others will have a different opinion but for me it was the perfect balance between purchase price ,power and economy.

I get about 25Ltrs per 100km towing my boat but can at the drop of a hat go from 5th @100k/ph to 3rd @145k/ph with boat on to overtake. I love that and find it much safer. (I don't drive at that speed normally ) short bursts of power were what I wanted and the big petrol was right for me .

That said I really wanted a V8 but price dictated the model I got and I was partiall to the "live axle " set up on the 105.

That does not for one minute mean that given the oppourtunitry I won't drive off with your vehical .....LOL

Well...I took a 97 Discovery TDi with 1500kgs of trailer and gear to the cape and back taking the hard way (OTL, etc) and had no issues at all as far as stressing the vehicle was concerned.  Sure it was a steady pace, but we did it and only used 12l/100ks average for the trip.

The cruiser is the horse car. Hay etc in the back. It takes me a few days to clean it. :'(

I am in the proccess of modifying the set up in the back for the 2 fridges. I will make the fridges sit on the bottom and put containers above. Will post some photos when done.

Thats one neat modification there jetcrew.
I'm just wondering what kind of support is in the centre of the pole box? I know its from JT so it should be strong, but there is a lot of weight in 2 jerries and 2 batteries. Gives me the incentive to get started on the mods i need to do, if only the kids bedrooms would paint themselves.......

Trupm,

Yeah I was concerned about the weight to but after getting the box from JT I had no concerns as it is very very strong and when laid flat the weight is distrbuted well into the edges.

I dont think I will see any probs it's strong as like most of the Trackabout products .

I added the checkerplate to stop stone chips I recomendation from Mcgirr and a few others ,Lucky my Dad can access a bending machine.

Jetcrew ...... Looking good .... out of interest how do you plan to secure the pole box lid ?

Thanks

I was thinking of using 2 of the normal latches that are on those pole boxes as standard one on each side as one in the middle won't work because of the jerry holder but I am waiting on some stainless ones .

once they are on I'll take a pic and post.
