With the ones I got from Target, it's just a horizontal strap that goes around the driver/passenger headrest.  I pull it pretty tight so I don't feel it when I am driving.

Cool, that is what I need! Thanks.
Now I need to go to Target and see if they have them still. Do they have a USB port as well?

No it doesn't from memory, but it will apparently play divX from a DVD with lots of movies on it (untried at this stage)

The kids have both just got cheap android tablets with bluetooth headphones. They can watch movies or play games on them.

I went through the whole roof mount, headrest mount.......the tablet option is so much easier and cheaper

Yea starting to think that.. they both have laptops, but rooted batteries, and then theres a fight for the inverter :(

The headrest option screens are so small and the options of what format they play is extremely limited.. welcome to 10 years ago style...

I got well over 6TB of movies, but most are in MKV format.. :( Not many things play quality.

only issue with streaming is the reduced battery life.

We got ours from Kogan and the movies either go on USB or onto mini SD card

i just use the following application to convert the kids movies so they'll play on just about anything:

http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/

the only problem i may have with this setup is getting the same video to play on both screens... may have to look at hdmi input/output...

this may work...:

one is 5 and one is 3... they don't mind... :)

at least with tablets, they can use headphones and watch their own when they are older...

I recently sold my FG Falcon XR6 that had head rest DVD players.

Would I get them again, no.

For the amount of use they get, they are not worth the money. To watch a full movie requires a drive of 1.5+ hours, which severely limits the opportunities to use the DVD player in the first instance. Add to that the fact that a child watching a 7 inch screen while in the back seat of a car is a recipe for motion sickness, just ask my daughter.

In my situation, I would have been much better off getting a tablet of some description because they are a lot more versatile.

ipads don't play all formats (avi, mp4, mkv) depending on the codec that was used to create the movie file in the first place.

that's why i am looking at 2nd generation google nexus 7 tablets...

its usually 2+ hours to get to the bush from my place... I reckon mine was the best investment yet, specially for long trips - flinders, fraser, robe, etc...

If we can sort them they will replace 60 lab terminals for the price of $50each instead of 800each....  I didn't even think about this for them!

And if you can't sort them then there'll be some kicking around for "projects"

You could buy 2 iPads for less than $1400. Movies, games, good battery life. Just a thought.

16gb for 450ish and 32 gb for $600 and then use for school. Our daughter uses hers(mine) all the time wuth various apps and movies I transferred. Even bought a cheap headrest holder from fleabay
