Car awning on a Jayco camper

We have the normal bag awning on our Jayco eagle, we find it a bit of a pain to use (poles etc.) for short stays, but still prefer it for longer stays in bad weather or use of the annexe.

Has anyone used a car awning , Ironman, kings etc on their camper for short stays ?

It's not a cheap option, but a mate has fitted a Fiamma F45 to his Jayco poptop and it seems to work well. It's a wind out arning with the 2 legs permantly attache, so no more mucking about with all the Jayco poles and ropes any more. https://www.caravansplus.com.au/fiamma-f45-s-awning-30m-royal-grey-p-8559.html

I've got a Fiamma on my Jayco Eagle and it has been excellent. You can either connect the legs back to the side of the camper or drop them down vertically with a peg and a couple of guy ropes it it's a bit windy.

One issue with a car awning is the height of the Jayco roof vs the awning legs. The arms can only angle down so far, unless the awning was mounted on an angle facing down.

Can be done successfully. We did that to our old off road camper..
I made up special double swivel hinges so that the awnings could drop down as far as needed.. Had them on all four sides. Worked a treat. Thing was that they could be dropped right down to avoid pooling when it was raining. Heaps of photos if you need them and how to make the double swivel hinges.

Thank you for the information, I wish I was handy enough to make the extra bits.

Also the air annexe for about $1k isn't too bad an option long term to replace the current annexe.

If I could get the double swivel hinges made, I would definitely go for it, as it is also a better option over the Beds  than the current method.

My sister has an Eagle outback.
She uses a supercheap brand awning.
She puts an additional adjustable pole on the legs to get the height right.

I did a few years ago. Went on Ebay.. Got lots of inquiries.. But everyone thought that a pair of hinges were too dear or they didn't want to send up the old Tee's for exchange.. Which then made it expensive..
All too hard, so I scrapped the idea.. Still have to jigs and probably enough parts to make one or two pairs..

Yep I do. I put it on.
There is a jayco roof rack on the camper.
Bolted it to the rack as you would on a vehicle.

One limiting factor with how low the awning can be set at is the opening door height. Too low and the campers door hits the awning.

I also had the bag awning and that was the only thing that caused arguments when packing up. We used to roll it up and one end or the other wouldn't go in the bag and the misses only had one go in her wrists rolling it away.
I bought a Fiama F45 3.5meter from ebay and fitted it myself. Had to get the local boat builder to cut a few pieces of ally plate for me to pack out the mounting points.

Now we have been camping a few times since fitting, I can say it is the best $1000 I ever spent on the camper.;

I bought a kings and fitted it to our old 83 Jayco pop up, I wanted a 3 x 3m as the legs would be that bit longer, but could only get a 2.5 x 3m one, I did mount it on the van at around 5 to 7 degrees angle out at the top to help the pivot down, that did help, But I had to duck tape some 25mm x 25 x 1m  tomato stakes to the legs to reach the ground, its good to put up for a quick stop but I would not put it up in lots of wind and leave it,  Craig
