Snowpeak Tent Pegs

The #30 Snowpeak though (used in the review) has an 8mm diameter peg, so should be about 30% stronger than the Supapeg 300mm, but costs about 7 times the amount, The ones from eBay are 5 times the amount.

Everyone's situation is different so value is a bit subjective, but this might help people make a more informed decision. 

Just like oil's aint oil's, steel's aint steel's either. Forging helps with strength, yes, but you can not compare mechanical properties between the two unless you know what grades of steel we are dealing with here. Then there are heat treatment options which can change the equation again. I guarantee they are very different.

I agree with the multiple cost factors though, if the supapeg even lasts the same time as a forged one, then as you say, you are multitudes in front with the supapeg.

The forged peg drives in hard. Not having hit a supapeg myself, it still looks spongy to me. That could be an issue trying to crack that buried rock and may be why it didn't bend??

Note they are 20cm pegs though - still pretty cheap.

Those are Chinese produced cast iron as opposed to the Japanese produced forged steel in the Snow Peak pegs. They will be weaker and significantly more brittle.

They say they are cast iron, but is this just chinglish at play or are they really cast iron? Cast iron is brittle and doesn't handle shock/tension well.

You may be right about that. Chinese to English translations can be a bit hit and miss.
Even if they are forged however, I'd be extremely confident they won't be the same quality as the SP ones.
