That means because I have had a good childhood and have respect I will have the book thrown at me. I was brought up the wrong way.

That's worked so well for them that they have the highest rate of incarceration (almost twice the next China) http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/spl/hi/uk/06/prisons/html/nn2page1.stm

Why anyone would use the USA as an example to follow is beyond me.  I prefer to copy someone who is fairer and a fair go is the main rule.

Ok so who is fairer when it comes to how we manage crime as we clearly haven't got it right here, the word fair and fair go when it comes to crooks, creeps and cons shouldn't even be put into the same sentence.

Yep, 1200MN.  0000 hrs. 12.00am. Midnight, all the same thing.

The other one is...1200MD. 1200 hrs. 12.00pm. Midday.

People think they're all the same, but they are all different in their own way.

And there in lies the solution. Outsource the punishment to Singapore, be much cheaper than locking them up; the bleeding hearts brigade can join them as well.

A saltwater bath, on the way out, followd by a citrus balm, to sooth  the pain wouldn't go amiss either.

Where is his incentive to not drive?

Okay I'll walk for the next 70 years then can I get my licence!
I'm not saying give him a licence but at least some light at the end of the tunnel.

i get what your saying, but they had that "light at the end if the tunnel" option the first couple of times they would have fronted a judge, clearly that didn't mean squat to them. Incarcerate them and get them off the roads for the sake of those doing the right thing is the only punishment now, it might not change their attitude, but I guarantee they won't be driving

At some point there has to be a **** you pal.... maybe instead of a months jail, give him 5 years.

What makes you think that this is the only thing that this guy has no respect for. I am sure this is not the only thing he does that's not right. How many times has he got away with them as well.

So if everyone got up and sent a letter to their local mp and state delegates, they make have to actually "earn" our vote next time.

So you suggest that the way the legal system should approach people is to be UNFAIR?

I don't think we need to follow anyone else, we are capable of making our own decisions BUT if you want to follow someone else why follow the least successful country.  Unless you think that the more people in prison the better.

Personally I think that the less crime the better.

Crime has risen from 6067 to 6352 per 100,000 over the last 10 years.  This is 4.7% increase over 10 years.  Not the right direction but hardly an emergency.  Consider that there is better reporting (a good thing) that increases this number.

He is in gaol until February and then he fronts court again so 2 months at least including the Christmas period.

"The case will return to court for finalisation on February 6. Blackley remains behind bars, bail refused."

corndog

He should be behind bars. Throw away the key. Then weld the lock up. Then forget he is there.

WOW  What do you do to someone who has hurt or stolen from someone.

Not a lot of flexibility there.

Maybe we should transport them to .........

Its not only Melbourne mate. Its in most of Australia. People who have been affected by the behaviour of community scumbags are rightly outraged.  The bleeding hearts and do-gooders normally advocate leniency and pity for the perpetrators of crime because the do-gooder wasn,t affected...some other poor bugger was!!!

Wonder how any do-gooders would be pleading leniency if their kids where raped, murdered or bashed? What would be the reaction if this scumbag on his umpteenth illegal driving spree crashed through your kids bedroom wall and killed one of your kids?  There is so much crime that goes unreported that the official figures cannot be believed...dont forget they have been tampered with by govt departments to try and reflect that the govt is in control..hahaha.
Philippines drug program is working well...bring it here! And on that note.....MERRY XMAS
