I'm skeptical as if he does have approval why hasn't he flood gates opened and we see two trailers being towed everywhere.

The photos of this bloke's out fit have been going around the internet for years.

From the Victorian Road Safety (Vehicle) Regs -

Quote249 Towing offences
(1) A person must not, without the Corporation's approval, use, or cause or permit to be used, on a highway a motor vehicle that is towing more than one other vehicle.

So how is a B double allowed to tow 2 trailers?

Easy -

Quote244A Non-application to heavy vehicles
This Chapter, except regulations 245, 245A, 246, 247, 252 and 253, does not apply to a heavy vehicle

You'd have to think he's going to get pulled over by every single cop car that sees him, and gets booked by all of them...

Actually he did.

I used to work for Vicroads and received a photo at one stage from another enforcement officer from Mildura who pulled him up and instructed him to take it back home, with the help of a couple of bits of paper for his efforts.

As Bird said cost for one getting everything engineered, other from memory is that he was a retired truck driver and you need to be liscenced to drive a B-double to drive it

Yeah, but the guys and gals over at the old Greensborough Vicroads probably gave it full approval.

After giving it the full once over by glancing at it out their window....

Whats the B double technology?

A B double is a configeration consisting of a prime mover (a vehicle that has it's tow coupling above the rear axle group, not behind) towing a semi trailer (a trailer with it's only axle group at the rear of the trailer and it's tow coupling at the front) which is in turn towing another semi trailer.

This blokes configeration doesn't use a prime mover or semi trailers, so it can't be considered a b double, which is why he got pulled up just outside Mildura and sent home.

Be more considered as a road train, I thought.
Not at this time permitted in Vic.
Any/all trailers would need break away braking, besides anything else.

Not a B Double, not a Road Train (no dolly) more like an Urban Myth.

There is a limited road train network in Victoria https://vicroadsmaps.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=5e1ec0a877eb450b8e46ac29b3343712

Then if you meet the stringent requirements you can call them a 30m A doubles and run them on this network

Hopefully pick up the 1st of our 6 sets of A doubles next week  :cup:
