Hex Pegs vs Peggy Pegs

In the market for some pegs I can drill into the ground. Can't decide between Hex Pegs and Peggy Pegs.

Anyone got any feedback on either one, or even better, anyone tried both? Thanks

Never used either, I did watch a Peggy peg demo at a camping show. Looked like a good product in there show set up. 

I don't carry a cordless drill and couldn't imagine using a ratchet so I wasn't tempted.

same as Matt, on occasions when camping in very hard ground use the landscaping screws from the green shed

I just use 150-200mm stainless coach bolts from Bunnings. Cordless drill is also used for the stabilizers.

For those using construction screws from bunnings, are they a hex head? And how are you connecting guy rope springs? Hex pegs have that little bit on top which normal screws don't have.

Large washer with extra hole  drilled into it and bent up on that side or a section of 25 mm x 3 mm alluminium  flat bar bent 45*  with holes  drilled is what Ive seen used

Peggy Pegs are great, if you can get them in. It's been so dry up here that the ground is too hard for them lately. Had to revert to standard pegs on my last few trips..

I've got a set of Aldi ones. Still haven't used them. Were about $15 for 20

I have the ALDI ones, they are great. Have used them many times in rocky, hard ground and do a great job.

Had the Peggy pegs for a few years. They are great but stupid expensive. The small plastic ones are good for mats etc but for the large ones skip the plastic and buy the alloy ones.

In hard ground just use a rock drill first saves heartache

Ground was so hard at Copley when I was last there that I went through about 8-10 bent normal style pegs before I was setup completely..
To say I was ****ed off with the whole situation and ready to go home was an understatement.

So now camping is turning into a construction site too.. hard hats, safety glasses and fluro vests first Anything else we need to carry?

You don't have to I just have a 10mm long masonry bit I chuck in the battery drill. I use the battery drill for everything jockey wheel , jacks the lot. Quicker , quieter than a hammer wtf wouldn't you!

Everybody is always whining about not having enough time! I like to be set up in double time to max relax time :-)

I have a couple of boxes of the Aldi ones. They are very good quality. The only issue I had was that the collars are too tight and spun with the screw...not ideal for hooking on a guy rope or into a d ring. However  took all the collars off and drilled out the holes to be slightly larger and now they work an absolute treat. And as mentioned above, the impact driver does the job on the camper stabilisers as well.

 I just used M12 x 200mm gal coach screws on a trip through the flinders, Oodnadatta and across the Simpson. They worked fantastically, on everything from very hard rocky ground at Rawnsley Park to soft sand in the desert. Highly recommended.

I know plenty here use the coach bolt solution (numerous threads on it) but I cant see how they would hold in sand if it got windy...

Not too badly, I think the threads give them just enough hold in the sand...

We've got 300mm Supapeg pegs that work well in sand, but got those orange sand pegs before Fraser, and they are brilliant, so much so we had to dig some out when we were leaving

They have held just fine in wind. If I'm just pegging out the corner of the tent I use a large 50mm square washer to match. If I'm using the coach screw for a rope I also bought some hooks from Bunnings that I think were for coat hooks on the back of a bedroom door. They are only zinc plated but work perfectly. I drilled the hole out to match the m12 coach screw and the tent rope hooks on perfectly.

To be able to get my 9yr old daughter to put the tent pegs/bolts in, in no time with out loud banging with the hammer is a great move for your camping experience!!
