Gday swaggers , just a quick one . we got a room downstairs with no tv antenna cable . Apart from the old rabbit ears is there a new type of aerial out that will pick good reception ?? cheers Adam

G,Day SD,  Guess it depends where you are, we got one of these Bauhn jiggers from Aldi  for about $25 from memory, Plugged in and worked fine inside the house, all channels nice and clear on a cheapy Chinese tv ..

I've never had much luck with various portable antennas, powered or otherwise.   My previous home was rented and there was no fixed TV antenna.   The portable ones were useless and I had to keep moving them and their arms.   From my back door you could see the transmission towers on the top of Mt Dandenong, so I don't think location was a problem for us.

You might have the other problem, tooooooo much signal. 
It is possible you may need to Attenuate the signal, reduce it to a manageable level.

thanks guys guess I will get out and purchase a cheap one and see how it goes , more fore the kids in the downstairs room but maybe when the cricket is on I will be pushed away down there also

You can buy a signal booster, plugs into the 240v, might be an option.

Don't waste your money on signal boosters if you have one of these cos if they don't work then you're out of range short of a bloody tall tower mast-

Sorry Hem, I'm with Prodigy on this one.
You use a signal booster/amplifier and you boost the noise as well.
If your out of range, you just get a *rap signal.
You'll have to do some homework before you leave home, and work out the coverage of the area your going into.
The old style yagi type aerials still work, you just have to get one for the right frequency/band.
The longer, and more elements, the more amplification you get.
Then you have to work out if type of TV signal is vertical or horizontal oriented.
Obviously the higher you can get the aerial/antenna the better.
