Well couldnt help it Dandy, Went straight to the horses mouth, Boddington vintage associaton   .. Apparently this trailer / Limber was towed by a Tank [ Can assume a WW1 Tank ]   .. The wheels carried extra fuel and the box carried spare  ammunition .. The grainy pic I saw in Google search had it with a field gun, so obviously mixed and matched due to circumstances ..
EDIT : Found it tankmuseum.org/museum-online/vehicles/object-e1949-361   WW2

Now there's a great idea for long desert trips - carry extra fuel in the wheels of your camper  :)

Ha ha. Thanks for that.

The limber thing was bugging me as the tow bar on the back looked like a later addition. The hitch itself looks like a standard modern UK pin hitch. The drawbar has been extended too, to take a standard ring.

I found a short video of one in the tank museum https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jgxkn3Nrw1w

You can even get a 1/35 scale model kit of one...

I can sleep easy now. Actually, I need to get up. It's gone 6:30 am here.

edz

In the past Modeler forums etc have been a big help with identifying oddball stuff as they research the hell out of things to make accurate models of them ..  ;D

Imagine trying to slow down with half a tank in each wheel.  Or worse, overheating brakes......

From memory, the towball was bolted direct to the bumper on the Minx.

Ha ha. My wife wasn't even a twinkle in her dad's eye when that pic was taken. In fact, her parents hadn't even met.

A couple more...

Bonar Bridge, Scotland. Then (1964) and now.

Kyle of Localsh railway station. That's me and mum in the extreme left window of the observation car. Austin pickup in the back of a Bedford truck... I think.

Ha ha. I've seen that clip before.

According to my mum, it was an easy tow because it only weighed 10 cwt.
