Plenty of good, and I mean, really good cars available in Oz for around $50.000 or do what we did, import one yourself.

I can hook you up with the folks we used, very upfront and very honest dealings all round.

Shit man, you're only here for a short time and death is ..... forever.

With only hours left to live, moaning, groaning and getting ready for that final death rattle, don't just lay there thinking, "Geez I wish I done.......ffffhhht. too late.

I had a look yesterday, at what could be, the ultimate Rat Rod.

A 1936 Cadillac Fleetwood V8 Limo. This thing has the divider window from the front to the back and is in a bad ratty condition.
It would cost waaay too much to restore, as it would over capitalize the car by a fair margin.

The motor will start and run and in a few weeks, the owner and I are going to fire it up and move it out of the shed for a good look over.
The last rego sticker on the windscreen is NSW Feb 1958. (It was 22 year old car then)

Some rust repairs have been undertaken and some still to do. Would require some serious work, but once sorted an running with brakes etc, i'd run it through rego as an "AS IS LOOK" and would be a wild rat rod on the road.
They have 354 cube V8 (or thereabouts) from the factory, so this thing would lend itself well to an LS Gen 3 conversion too.
Would be a very cool car with an LS, 4 speed auto and Commodore rear end too.

Once I've seen it in the light, i'll make my offer. Friggin huge car too, takes up some space.

Very similar to this, but not in this good of condition.  :'(
It is RHD from new we believe and its just a monster of a car.
I'm thinking, rub the whole thing down with a scourer pad, blow some red oxide over it.
Then a coat of flat finish colour, maybe a deep green and then sand back all the high areas, corner spots and swage lines to get the red oxide coming through the flat top coat.
Would look pure evil coming up behind a Hyundai  i 130 or similar no taste small car.

What a waste .. Could have been a great survivor car, rebuild the drive line where needed,  source / replace the missing bits, Document the hell out of it and its history,  Would be worth more ...

A waste is a bit dramatic.   ???

As a survivor, yeah, it is very desirable but I still think the value would be pretty close to each other either way.

For every person like me, who prefers a survivor car, there is someone who prefers a restored car.....  8)

Please explain? Survivor car or Restored car, am I correct in assuming the car above is considered a resto and a car which has always been maintained from new is a survivor.

Maybe a Waste is the wrong word,  " Its a shame they didnt ' would have been a better choice..
A Survivor car for  me is  in Original untouched or with general use patina or with period original parts / mods condition as possible ..
As opposed to fully restored to better than brand new Perfect fit panels / paint unmarked etc etc [ At times ] factory fresh look condition, usualy with lots  of modern Reproduction bits and an owner claiming look at my  " ORIGINAL  " XXXXX  car.
But thats just my take on it and preference ..
Like they would be totaly crazy to fully restore the Mothball Falcon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST00wkNXBWs   At the end of the day its who ever owns it $$$ and choice to do with it what they want to . They generaly will find someone out there willing to buy it .

Yeah, restorations can done on a few different levels.
Some cars are over restored.
Chassis/body cars can have an "on chassis" resto
You can a body off resto

Something like my Caddy, is referred to as a "survivor driver" car as Edz has touched on above me.
Mostly original, some slight patina, that sort of thing.

Don't worry edz, Neil has no plans of restoring it!
It's now back in his garage, over the road from me.
Funny side note: it was a huge day for the neighbourhood when they took it out. Everyone came out to watch as it was craned out of Neil's place, tv cameras, Alan Moffat etc etc.
It stayed out for a few weeks for the doco and a car show, and was then quietly wheeled back in one day, no fuss or fanfare! The crane was all part of the show!!
Don't expect to see it again any time soon!!
Nice car, and a good bloke too!

So no intentions of selling and just a beat up by the tv mob.

I'm shattered, how could that happen.  :D

Was nice to see it though, even with all the fanfare and hype .. Hopefully they dusted the O'l girl off and waterproofed the shed a bit better for its next hibernation .
