Yeah its getting a bit scary around the place......................there is a 4ish metre great white hanging around Noosa atm.......not to mention the big tiger shark that lives at Granite...............

I think that we are catching so many fish these days we aren't leaving them enough, additionally I reckon they are following the whales....what shark wouldn't want to feast on a huge chunk of whale meat and thats bringing them further north.

I was cruising back from the north end of the Sandy Straits on Saturday after chasing some whales around Hervey Bay and we saw quite alot of juvenile sharks cruising off the beach of Fraser

We were at Ballina South Beach only last Saturday morning.  Watched a pod of dolphins and what we thought was a lone dolphin or shark near a body boarder.

Well to a shark, a surfer from below would resemble a seal, and they do like seals

I also blame those cage diving companies in South Africa and South Australia for "training" sharks that humans are food too.
They burly up the water, start a feeding frenzy, then drop some people in a cage just to tease the sharks. Nah-nah--nah-nah-naahh, you can't eat me....

Well guess what idiots, those same sharks travel thousands of kilometers across the oceans and the next human they see swimming around that's not in a cage...... Got ya this time smartass!!!

I recall a story about a great white that crossed the Indian Ocean from North West WA to South Africa in a few days, but I couldn't find the actual artical.
So here's one they tracked crossing the Atlantic. Tagged shark travels 32,187km in 12 months!


And by the way, all the best surf breaks in Australia are full of massive man eating sharks, best you all stay out of the water.....

Near rivermouths always suss - especially bulls. Problem is there are a lot of good breaks near river mouths...

Somebody surfing at a known shark location and everybody is surprised that there was a bite? It really worries me that every time something like this happens, the media jumps onto the cull bandwagon again. We should all accept the fact that it's a risk you take if you want to swim in their ocean.

I've seen countless varieties of shark in the wild (including a Great White off the Gold Coast) while diving and never had a problem with any of them. They're everywhere, and they're a lot closer to the shore than people realise.

We spent half the day down at Bokarina Beach (Sunshine Coast) today. About an 8'ish one cruised down through where the kids were just swimming. There was a fairly large gutter where we were set up, almost low tide and less than 10' deep. Everyone had just come out of the water for lunch and he/she just cruised in one entry, down through the deeper part and out the other side then off into deep water.

99% of the beach goers were totally oblivious to it.

I spent my early years up to about 20 living in Ballina & Byron in the 70's, 80's and early 90's, my father at one time owned a trawler.
I remember it was nothing to hear that they had shot a dozen sharks per trip out.
The sharks use to follow the trawlers all night feeding in what was thrown over out of the nets that wasn't a keeper.

Byron use to have the Whaling Station, then the meat works, it pumped blood out a pipe near the old jetty into the bay.
Surfing in both places as a kid it was nothing to see sharks daily.
