I'm about to buy a new Goldstream Wing III and I'm as nervous as hell!

I've spent a year researching camper trailers (I sold my Skamper Kamper last year) and I'm confident I'm doing the right thing in choosing the Goldstream Wing III.  I think I need some strangers telling me that it's a great decision, I won't regret it, sign the bloody paperwork now!    They are good - aren't they?!

Had a goldstream wing II for a few years, until I was rear ended.  Was a great quality camper. no issues at all, towed it off road all round the place. Very solid unit.

Great camper, but make sure you get the payload upgrade, it makes things much easier when you start adding things.  They normally only have 300kg payload which also includes the water and gas so it doesnt leave much for your things.  It didnt cost much extra while being built.

Buying our first camper was the best thing we ever did. Well second best anyway..... Having kids probably rates first!

Just do it. Life's too short for regrets. Besides you've done the research. Now take action.
I hope you love it as much as we have loved ours over the years. (albeit a Jayco - but similar)

If you buy one it's  justification for me that I bought the right one. I love mine set up. Love it. The inside room the comfort the airiness and fullsizedness. Drop all the canvas and plastics, hide the cutains and voila resort style living!
I am a sort of person that will find fault with any decision I make. I want a Camprite and a DOT6 aswell as  a Lotus Trooper, a Kedron thing, aTrakmaster, a Bushtracker.   Argh  Buy it ffs

Errr think again. Some models are only capable of 1350kg, some are 1500kg some are 2T and the towball mass varies (I used to own one)


TOWING

Not all X-Trails are the same when it comes to towing ability. While most variants offer a maximum braked towing capacity of 2000kg, there are some exceptions. These include 2WD, petrol manual variants, which are restricted to a maximum 1500kg. Diesel, auto X-Trail can only tow 1350kg (or 2000kg with the manual transmission).

The other, slightly confusing issue to consider is towball mass, which varies according to how much you're carrying on board the 1556kg X-Trail. Fully loaded to the maximum GVM of 2100kg, the maximum weight on the towball is limited to 50kg. Keep the GVM to 1850kg or less and towball mass increases, up to 200kg.

When I bought the storm (and the wing will be similar) it only has about 300kg of loading capacity from empty to its max weight allowable, the water and gas needs also to be included in this so it doesnt allow you much for clothes, food and extra stuff you want to carry before you are illegal.  my upgrade added 400kg to the 300kg and it allowed me to include solar panels, and all my gear, fill two water tanks and the 2x9kg gas bottles and still be way inside the legal limit of what is on the compliance plate.  The upgrade consisted of stronger axles, brakes and I think that was all, but they can tell you, ring Goldstream direct for the best info.  Knowing what most owners cart in their campers you will probably find that most would not pass a weight inspection if pulled up on the road which has been happening in Vic and Qld lately.  Read the compliance plate info and goldstream will tell you what you can legally add, its better to get the upgrade while its being built.

Ok I'll chirp in as a Jayco Swan Outback owner and a Diesel X-trail owner.  Enjoy and you're vehicle will be more than capable.  Our Swan has a ball weight of between 150-160kg most trips and varies between 1650-1900kg depending on water and all the crap we don't need.  X-trail has never missed a beat in the 20-30,000km we have towed the Swan. 

We carry only light gear in the back of the X-trail and I have fitted airbags although we did many trips without, I just like everything level and equalizer bars are a no no on the X-trail.  The only other suggestion is to drive to the conditions and your capabilities.  People's opinions on the X-trails capabilities without actually having owned or at the very least driven one whilst towing something like we tow must be taking with a grain of salt at best as most think they know what there talking about yet are sadly misguided.

So to summarise,  Go for it and you will love it and congratulations    Happy to help with any other questions

Thanks everyone.  Yes, my X-Trail is a manual 6 speed diesel so limit is 2000kg and tow ball weight of 150kg.  I went for the Wing 3 over the Wing 2 because of its ball weight.

I'm still confused about talk of an upgrade... are you saying the trailer components need to be upgraded or something on the X-Trail?  Sorry for the dumb questions.  I spoke to Nissan yesterday and they were useless!

I want to be safe, legal and be able to enjoy the drive.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I've towed a boat and a Cub Camper Drover which has a similar weight.  Going up hills was slow but not so much that I had a line of annoyed drivers behind me.
