Laser distance measure

Hi can anyone recommend a laser distance measure in the $100 to $120 vicinity. It's got home use.

Often wondered what people use these for. I have worked on the tools in the past and still build a lot of Shit and have never found a time when I couldn't find a person or object to hold the dumb end of the tape. Not sure I could trust a laser measurement for anything I had to cut.

I too am in the trade and anything that requires measuring to cut I use a tape measure. The laser measure comes out when we are doing quick take offs and QA on room sizes. Don't need the help of others and accurate within 5mm as well. Probably helps I got mine for free as well

I have a Leica Disto. It's accurate to +/- 1mm over 200m, and has heaps of useful features, but it's way over-specced (and over-priced) for home use.
I bought it for site measuring inaccessible stuff, and it's great for that, but I still use a tape for the simple things.

I have one for measuring sheds and shops and stuff......cost around $600 years ago but still works well.........I think the current ones are upto $900 - $1k.......not cheap.

but they're really for floor and tiling salesmen plus RE sales plan-makers and the like although the lad's a sparky and uses it for setting out downlights in ceilings. He can size up the room quickly and also work out running measurements to ceiling joists from one spot in the ceiling to plan for avoiding them with the final layout below.
That's one task you don't trust to the apprentice particularly in established homes

Have a look for a mobile phone app, I watched a cabinet maker measure a room for a quote the other day and he used his phone.

Its for measuring around the house and measuring up new houses. All domestic work and 98% accurate is good enough.

I bought this unit from masters for $98 and it works a treat. Range is 25m and i found i only used it up to about 20 which was good.

Much easier and quicker than running a tape measure too

The newer disto which has Bluetooth and syncs with drawing apps would be a worthwhile tool to have. I don't think my old Leica D2 will die soon enough to be able to justify it though.

They are a good unit and being able to sync straight to a dxf file is handy for site measures. It really really hurts when you break one though

I dropped my disto down the back of a wall oven while measuring a kitchen a while back... Luckily we got the job, retrieved the disto, then it disappeared a few months later while working on a shop fit... Suspected the plaster, but couldn't prove anything... Cut my loses bought another one... Then the bloody thing turns up a few moths later in the bottom of a bucket of packers??? Well now I've got two! One for the toolbox and one for the car. Always the way! I swear by my disto, it makes it so easy to measure someone's kitchen by yourself. Awesome bit of kit.

I needed to size up a renter to get a floor plan made for renting out (surprise surprise renters like to know room sizes and layouts just like buyers) and with +- 2mm accuracy over 40M it's ideal as your walls would be lucky to be within that accuracy and who measures more than 40M anyway? I always like stuff with AA and AAA batts too as I use Eneloop rechargeables all the time as they keep their charge on the shelf.
Bit easier on the pocket if you lose them on the job too
