RIP Mahammed Ali ( Cassius Clay ) not too many people around , black or white, that had the balls to stand up for what he considered right, like he did.
An absolutely brilliant athlete that overcame the "black" stigma in the USA, an olympic gold medalist , a 3 times world champion, probably the greatest boxer, certainly of our time, and probably ever.

One of my heros

RIP Cassius Clay , the GREATEST  :cup: :cup: :cup:

A magnificent athlete who was admired by almost every person on the planet.

Ali, or Cassius,  was the first and greatest trash talker the world has seen.

Ask what the Vietnam Vets think, especially the black American vets who were called up and did their duty. What takes the greater balls, to go when called or have someone else do the fighting for you? A false hero in my opinion.

Ali was a controversial character, some people hero worshiped the guy and that's fair enough, but in my opinion if everyone took his attitude in the 1960's we may as well have laid down and let the commies run everything. You've got to look past the athlete and assess the character, that's all.

O'l Mohammad hey. What a life he had.. I'm an Aussie, Aussies don't like big mouths - Ali was a big mouth - the fact that he could walk the walk as well as talk the talk doesn't change the fact that he was a big mouth that thought nothing of humiliating people to get where he was headed. Great athlete, absolutely; a joy to behold, but not a human due hero worship.

On the other hand, he did live in a land that would have otherwise trodden him into the dirt if he did not come out swinging (squze the pun), so you have to hand at least that to him.

RIP big guy, you certainly made your mark.

I admired the man for his stance on not going to the war. Regardless of thoughts of him being a dodger etc, he was correct in saying his war was against those in power in the US of A.
How many rich white kids got drafted?
That is what he fought against, and that is to be admired.
