cania gorge fuel options

hey everyone. i have a 5 day trip planned in 3 weeks to big 4 cania gorge. my question is is there fuel near there and how bad is the pricing. as i got a 4 hour trip there and i calculated i'll be on my last quarter if i drive straight through. if i can fuel up there and just drive back it would suit me.

Monto is not all that far from Cania Gorge, it's your typical smallish country town with all the services that you'd need (including several fuel stations). Fuel prices are bound to be a bit dearer then the bigger city's, but won't be horrendous.

last time i was up that way i went to fuel up at eidsvold and it was about 15 - 20 cents more then gayndah. so i chucked my jerry can of fuel in the tank and kept moving to gayndahbut i didnt go as far as monto

From memory eidsvold servo isnt open sundays. But the rest of the towns out there are.

At 20 cents a litre dearer and you chuck 50 litres in your vehicle it's what, $10 extra isn't it?...surely if people can afford the holiday, then they can support the local country towns they visit by spending the extra $10 in them can't they?. I get that people are sometimes tight on funds, but surely $10 can be found to not have to think twice about getting fuel whilst away somewhere.

Caltex roadhouse in Monto is open 7 days - has fuel, food and swap-n-go gas and is on the road through Monto to Cania.  Last time I was out there (Oct 15) the fuel was 15c/litre higher than on the coast.  Cafe Delicious (near the Monto information centre) does good coffee, snacks and meals.

Agreed.  Monto has got a good bakery, butchers etc. You don't have to buy all your supplies there, but why not throw a bit of money into their community.

Some if the best pies youll ever get are small town bakeries.
And some of the small places surprise you with the different stuff they carry, instead of all the same generic chinese crap sold in the usual places.

Yeah we're all planned to stop in to month and fuel up on the way and depending on the time we might grab a feed there too. I don't mind paying more as long it's not heaps cheaper 30 mins down the road.

Depends on the owners mood at the time. Last time I was there closed Saturday arvos but open usually the rest. Unfortunately it is easy to charge the higher rates when you are the only show in town.

Based on their figures, you could go there and back and still have 1/2 a tank of fuel left over.

I could of sworn last time I was at the big 4  @ cania they had a fuel pump near reception.

What are you driving or maybe, what size fuel tank has it.
Sorry, but that's not real good consumption from any vehicle as far as I'm concerned!

not sure a night but its 240 something for 5 nights, on a powered site. my parents are staying in a cabin for 600 for the same. we are staying from the 19th to the thursday, as they wanted an extra $30 for the thursday night on top of normal price.

What are you driving or maybe, what size fuel tank has it.
Sorry, but that's not real good consumption from any vehicle as far as I'm concerned!

i got a suzuki grand vitara, the biggest problem is the small tank, only takes about 60L to fill. it gets about 15L/100km towing the camper.

mind you this is how we were traveling.


although i will be running a bit lighter then the wuruma trip as i have lost more clear coat off of my roof.

Wuruma trip and now Cania. Mate sounds like you like the Central and North Burnett region. Be careful you don't become one of the locals

It was about 9 months ago wuruma trip was. But I was so nice there. Perfect weather. A little chilly in the mornings but got a good fire going and the fixed that. I've been told cania is really nice. Guess I'll find out in a couple weeks. I chose there because I wanted my parents to go as well plus I had heard good things. My oldest daughter is stoked that grandad is coming camping.

Last time I was at Cania was 2006, but there was a little old servo half way in from Monto on the left.

Mate we go to Wuruma every Christmas and it can get a bit hot but the nights are generally pretty cool. Cania is good also but they are obviously different as one is a CP and the other free camping. The last time I was at Cania (few years ago now) it was still knocked around from the floods so a lot of the walking tracks were closed. Did the next best thing which was hang around the pool and had a few beers  .

yeah.i figured there would be a big difference between the two. when we went to wuruma it was down to 7 degrees at night and tops of 22 ish. it was beautiful weather. i'm hoping its not to hot at cania in 3 weeks. as i'd like to do a few walking tracks. if its too hot i might just have to do what you did. haha i'm also hoping it wont be to busy going the week before easter.

The Big 4 at Cania sells fuel. Not sure how much but it's only a phone away to ask.

what did you show me that for. now i'm late for bed haha. id love to do some of those 4wd tracks but my little zook is a bit low for them. but i think ill check out that tunnel and the monal goldfields. if we get a chance, i'd love to see betsy but maybe another trip when we have a big 4wd.

Just wondering what is the trip to Betsy like? Road wise and time wise. Would a standard height grand vitara make it or is it usually abit rutted out. I would be travelling with a series 60 land cruiser. Which I know will have no dramas.
