Am I the only one who didn't know this..you cant transfer Camper warranty

I found out today from a friend, that if you buy a second hand Camper Trailer, or Caravan, etc., unlike cars, even if there is Manufacturer Warranty left on the item, it is not transferable to the second hand owner. Only by graciousness of the manufacturer are they obliged to fix.
Except where covered under 'Lemon' provisions etc.

I thought it would be like a car...but apparently cars are the only exception and covered by their own provision.

Am I the only one who didn't know this ?

Apparently that even relates to non Manufacturer 'manufactured' items...eg..

Many Camper Manufacturers I have seen have split warranties...eg..X years on the things they manufactured (chassis, canvas etc) and manufacturer warranties for those things that are not manufactured by them. Eg..batteries, solar panels, Vehicle Components suspension, battery charger, radio etc.

Apparently technically, those other item warranties are no longer valid for second hand purchase. Only by the nature of the relationship of the overall manufacturer with those suppliers and with yourself, may things get repaired/replaced. 

I've had a bit of a look on the some of the 'official' websites and from what I can tell, he's correct.

all any seller needs to offer, under Australian consumer law, is 12 months against faulty parts and workmanship. (wear and tear is usually excluded) There is also the clause about the item being "fit for purpose".

this is why most mountainbikes and BMX bikes come with a sticker on the bicycle that specifically refers to the warranty being void if used for "competition, jumping, stunting or off road use".

Many bicycle manufacturers offer longer warranties as it's good business. I suspect that many camper companies do the same as well.

Besides... if you believe in your product, then you have nothing to fear as a manufacturer... right?

But pretty much every consumer item sold in Australia will have the clause (probably hidden deep in the fine print) that the warranty is only valid to the original owner. (TVs, fridges, campers, etc etc)

Worth being aware of.

That's not to say of course, that some companies won't offer to transfer warranties. In bikes, I know that Turner Bikes do, (or used to, I should check if they still do) So some of the more premium camper brands might too.

The 5 year warranty on the KK chassis is tranferable. Not sure about other components though.
