Working the Monday  Dick I work for has just introduced a rule that extra days off are not to be taken either side of a public holiday weekend! This includes this relevant Monday. No reasons (even asked privately), just now company policy  No more 4 day weekends, wether you have the time accrued or not. Time to start looking for somewhere more in-tune to my way of life

I used to look a year ahead and get in 1st and book those sort of days in as holiday leave.  Where I used to work, unless they had urgent work to be done, they couldn't refuse you holidays if no one else was off.
