Always have a pack of cards in the 4wd along with a dice and a couple of sets of darts.  If we are going to have families with us we have 6 x badminton rackets and a net so we throw that in.  When it is just the two of us we take our Laptop and a couple of movies so we sit back, relax and watch a movie together which we rarely have time to do at home.  It is amazing what you can do with a set of dice and a pack of cards though.

Games when camping eh? OK, I'll keep this clean - not much option
'cause I usually go bush on my own these days :)

People! I'm astonished... there is only one game... Backgammon! :)

I use to play chess a fair bit but, these days, I prefer Backgammon,
it has much of the strategy of chess but the inclusion of dice means
the element of chance is introduced and a beginner may sometimes
beat an experienced player or, when the game is all but lost, a
couple of lucky throws can turn the whole thing around - much like
life really :)

Boss and I used to love a good game of backgammon, but the tin lids came along and now its uno, connect 4 or a game I really love called "how quickly can we drive our parents to drink!!!!!!!!!!"

Always a good thing to take with kids of any age is a soccerball, frisbee and some rope.
These 3 things provide hours of entertainment for kids of all ages.

Adult games...........well thats a different story.
Butterscotch schnapps, shot glasses and panadol.

we have a travel monopoly set that permanently lives in the camper, as well as a set of cards...we also have uno and skipbo, which the kids love to play, rumykins (i think that is what it is called) the kids like this and adults can play as well.....the DS also come along but like the majority they only come out of a night (not much of a chance to recharge if they run out)....and then we let the kids decide what other outdoor games come along,,,it is generally the firsbee and some sort of ball......but these are all for the kids...generally all Bullfrog and i do is watch the bush TV...... :laugh:
I wanna go camping.......:}

We like Pass the Pig. It's a bit silly but good fun.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pass_the_Pigs, and it is small (about the size of a pack of cards).

I've got pass the pigs somewhere- my grandma bought it for me when I was about 10; although it may be in my dads loft (in England) so it might have to wait. I have got a set of snooker dice of a similar vintage tho

Just back from Menindee and celebraty heads was a hit for the kids....they struggled with an "iconic bush hero" though, played by both male and female actors,fury, answered to a "gum leaf" call.

Also another one that got the nod was a memory game, goes something like;

....." whilst camping at Turlee Station I saw......(or where/what ever........goes around the circle) " a black bird" (next person says...)
....." whilst camping at Turlee Station I saw...a black bird and a campertrailer.(next person says...)
....." whilst camping at Turlee Station I saw...a black bird a campertrailer and a can of VB. (next person says...)
....." whilst camping at Turlee Station I saw...a black bird a campertrailer a can of VB and a pair of stillettos. (next person says...)

Goes on and on until you kill someone....;0)...no just joking....until its bed time kiddies!

You've been talking to my dad haven't you?  He always wanted us to play all those games, preferrably at the same time and for very long periods of time.

Hey Jetcrew! I know that game I've been playing it with my kids since they were little. They're 19 and 17 now and still haven't learnt the rules! ::)

There is a game I use to play years, called "Uckers" and another called "Asshole", I use to play this when I was a "Birdie" at "Tross", during "SCRAN" and out of habit, kept playing it when I paid off.

Dont you just love navy lingo.

Uckers (game) ?
Asshole (game)?
Birdie ?
SCRAN ?

I bet there is a few people on this site who know what they mean....  : )

cheers

My family loves PHASE10. it is a rummy style card game. My wife and 10 year old often play at home, and we are currently teaching the 6 yo how to play. We have also pulled rummikub out of the cupboard, and I hope to teach the family that. Apart from those two, there the usual card games like snap memory etc etc and scrabble,chess, backgammon, monopoly, spicks and specks. We are a games loving family. So we have plenty!

Here are some of our favorites that get a run (after the kids are snugged up in their fartbags)...

Sequence (easy game to introduce to newbies). Played in teams (usually men vs women) and lasts about 5 mins per game.
Rummicube (bit harder to grasp initially, and best played before the alcohol kicks in) Anywhere from 5 to 30 mins per game.
And finally, one definite game always played...
Farkle (best played after the alcohol does it's stuff).  Very simple game using only 5 dice.

I'm not so good with advice... can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

In my younger years when camped on the banks of the Murray we used to play 'night soccer'.

You take a new toilet roll, wrap it with gaffa tape leaving the ends exposed then soak in whatever volatile liquid you fancy. Upon nightfall you light it then attempt to play soccer. There are no goals and the game usually ends when somebody tries to head-butt the 'ball' or it's kicked into a tent and it burns to the ground. The trick was to wear natural fibres.

I remember "fire soccer" as we used to call it. I recall it being abandoned after we set fire to a campsite on the Brisbane river, after using shellite to light up the "ball". PMSL
Ahh the silly things we do as kids!

Another vote for Pass the Pigs from me. Classic game

Best cheap entertainment for kids we've found is;

-Cards (snap, go fish, even 500 etc)
-Bubble mix.
-air-powered foam rocket with a footpad that the kids stomp on & sends the rocket into the air. Often find them in junk shops for very cheap.
-Rocket balloons - bit of a pain finding all the pieces afterwards though.

Tip to avoid excess DS playing - only take 1x12v charger between 3 DS's

OK...apparently I had a sheltered childhood.
