Number 1 daughter is going to the Byron Falls festival and we just noticed that they have banned "gas bottles or cooking facilities with a naked flame"
I have asked the organizers to interpret this for us but no reply from the 'too cool to bother answering a customer enquiry' hipsters that run the show
Would anyone know what kind of cooking options are available that would be accepted that could at least boil water for a cuppa?

they charge a fortune for food and drink there, worse than at the footy
might look into the chemical heat packs, I'm sure we could feed 4 persons for much less than the junk they will serve up

Make a stew in thermal cooking pot, can't remember the name of ours, but it would work a treat and be legal/correct

I have worked in the medical tent for quite a few of these events.   It is absolutely a safety issue.   The camping at these events is not well organised and most of the attendees are not seasoned campers and many are alcohol and/or drug affected.   The camps are crowded with poor access.   It can look like a shanty town and the tents are so close to each other that fire will spread quickly and evacuation will be difficult.
The organisers of these events are professional (it's a big business) and paranoid about safety.   There have been quite a few deaths at such events recently (generally OD's) and before local government issues a Public Event permit Emergency Management planning needs to be tight.   The bigger events even have private fire crews with fire trucks on site for the duration of the event.   At the last event I attended there was one camp that kept re-lighting an open campfire after they were told to put it out repeatedly.   After their third cycle of being warned, putting it out then re-lighting the fire the local CFS put it out for them as only a fire truck can!   (The fire brigade auxiliary were running a food stall at the event)
Your daughter may be sensible and an experienced camper but unfortunately the rules are for the idiots out there.   You will sleep better knowing that.
ps food prices aren't too bad at the multi-day bush events and you may even be supporting the local fire brigade.   I think it's the one-day events in the city that tend to be expensive.
pps electrical cooking is not really an option as generators are usually banned.

My 3 kids have attended Falls the last 2 years. The biggest worry was poor security and the huge amount of drugs that gets in.

My kids came back to their 6 man tent to find 3 girls ransacking their tent. It turns out that they hid their drugs in the sons esky the day before, my daughter found it, thought it was rubbish and threw out. It got quite heated.
My kids described it as a truly WTF moment.

You can't reason with drug affected people.

I really don't understand, with today's technology and a crime fighting government, why are all these illegal and deadly drugs around?

well they are set up in the car camping area, so far so good, thanks for the input and advice.
They decided to just take drinks, cereal and do sandwiches at the camp and use the food hall at dinner time and for the odd coffee.
Might be for the better after all they are there for the music and laughs not the camping
