I wonder how all of the bike haters would post if their kid got knocked of their bike tomorrow...

Now you want people's kids to get hit by a car to teach someone a lesson. Really! It doesn't matter which side of an argument you are on, this sort of response is bordering on insane. Don't you think you need to just take a break, because this thread has really gone a long way from where it started ?

It started out about the totally irresponsible response of a grub who acted out of anger, without any apparent injury. Whether that grub rode a bike or drove a car was immaterial. He spat at someone who has to wear the worries of a transmittable disease for a month or so until the medical tests come back. Hopefully they are negative. That is the original post and the real issue. Not some stupid war between opposing groups of road users. There is big gulf between concern, passion and anger and some posters on both sides have well and truly crossed it lately.

Ok. Parenting lecture over. You should all go and sit in your rooms and have a good long think about it.

To the OP. I hope the worries subside and the tests all comes back negative for your good wife.

Pretty hard to misconstrue this statement.

On both sides, I would agree. But it is time for a rest, don't you think?

The clown with no lights or reflectors, wearing  dark clothes riding in the storm rain and night time traffic headlight dazzle an hour ago who almost became an abstract bonnet emblem on the wifes RAV and a Memory at Christmas time, should thank his prefered god, for the quick reactions of the driver behind the wheel and  invest in a box full of the stuff, In the name of self preservation  .

Not many cars at fault here......Just saying.....

Most of them are crossing the road at speed and that's just asking for trouble.

So the car driver is ok in deliberately stopping in an attempt to cause an accident , with a real chance of causing injury because the road rules say he's not at fault? Well that's ok then

Plenty of cars get pulled for brake checking if caught by the cops and I'm pretty sure there is a sub law regarding driving recklessly

Oh look. There is its.

(b) if the driving occasions grievous bodily harm-20 penalty units or imprisonment for 9 months or both (in the case of a first offence) or 30 penalty units or imprisonment for 12 months or both (in the case of a second or subsequent offence), or
(c) if the driving does not occasion death or grievous bodily harm-10 penalty units.

(2) A person must not drive a motor vehicle on a road furiously, recklessly or at a speed or in a manner dangerous to the public.
Maximum penalty: 20 penalty units or imprisonment for 9 months or both (in the case of a first offence) or 30 penalty units or imprisonment for 12 months or both (in the case of a second or subsequent offence).

(b) the amount of traffic that actually is at the time, or which might reasonably be expected to be, on the road,

The video proves the car in front stopped....but it doesn't show why he stopped, and you can surmise all you like , unless you can prove he slammed on the brakes to cause an accident, the push bike rider is in the wrong.
Same goes for cars, every end for ender you see, sometimes ALL the cars behind the 1st car is in the wrong.

We can't, but I am sure other witnesses there on scene could and did, and its still clearly reckless and negligent driving leading up to that.

I just find it sad that people are willing to defend someone who is intent on hurting another person. No matter what had happened prior nor the mode of transport, they are deliberately attempting to cause an accident/intimidate them/hurt them. I lump them in the same boat as the bike rider in the OP, and I wouldn't be prepared to defend either.

Driving aggressively
Deliberately swerved
Failing to stop after and accident where an injury has occurred

All right there on film

Watching the video it seems to me that stupidity is inherent in most pushbike riders.
Turning in front of a car......stupid
Racing across an intersection and not even giving a car the chance to stop....Stupid
Running into pedestrians.....Ok that's right Pushbike riders have the rights to both road and footpaths.
riding in the dark, wearing dark clothing, no lights....of course its the cars fault.......stupid.

But most annoying is these vegetables have no insurance, carry no ID and never pay for the damage inflicted on vehicles they scratch, dent and damage.

Just so you know, I ride, a mountain bike, off the road and do you know why.
Because its too bloody dangerous to ride on the road........stupid

Jeepers Creepers

I wouldn't have been riding along that road in traffic holding everyone up in the first place.

Of course the car driver was most likely at fault in that case, but I don't understand the pushbike riders being there in the first place.
Yeah, I know its not illegal and all that crap...... but it is dangerous for the bike rider.

I reckon anyone along there, car, bus, bike motorbike holding up traffic will always get drivers pissed off.

Lots of people pushing up daisies that were in the right and doing nothing illegal.

My mate is a great one re this debate too

He will go off a caravan drivers on the highway doing 80km and tell you that they shouldn't be on the road and carry on. and then he and his Lycra mates will happily ride 2 abreast and slow everyone down and argue black and blue that he is allowed to do it and drivers just need to be patient..

Unfortunately this argument will never be won in my lifetime any way..
