It looks impressive. A lot better than the old series 3 Landrovers we had in the 80's. I hope they get a few export contracts.

This are to replace the ageing Land rovers.

They are only building 1000 to 1200 units for $1,300,000,000.00. That's over $ 1,000,000.00 per unit, you can buy a lot of bloody new land Rovers for a million bucks. And you can get a big bloody mob of them for 1.3 billion bucks.

I am with you Duggie, but after my time in Defence, it wouldn't be Landrovers. Maybe humvees, maybe something else but not Landdrovers.

Yes but I have not yet seen a landrover that can withstand an IED. (Improvised Explosive  Devise) These vehicles are intended to be the little brothers to the Bushmaster PMV's. They wanted something that is air portable but at 7 ton that's pushing it I think.

The Humbvee is a pos . These are different, they are NOT replacing the landies directly. Previously the army had 10/12,000 landrovers full stop. They were used for anything army. Nowadays they have hiluxs and Landcruisers for non combantant roles(????) running around base and out to excercises areas . They use g wagons for more involved but still non combatant roles (3000) and then the bushmasters and now hawkei for dangerous/ combatant roles.

Fyi the landies were made in moorebank sydney by JRA and although landrovers they are much much better than anything landrover offered. They even had extra roller bearings in the gearbox and galvanised chassis. Great result of the army working directly and getting what they wanted. Much the same with the bushmaster and hawkei.
Here for a good time, not a long time!

Good point but the $1.3B figure is probably the full cost for the project over 5 years, or something similar.

If you add in the all the costs for planning, design, proof-of-concept, testing, building, implementation, training plus the cost of decommissioning the older vehicles, plus the run, repair, maintain and enhancement costs for the first few years, plus spares for each vehicle, then a margin for Thales, then $1M per unit may not be so high.

Had a ride in the development vehicle and I was left speechless. Awesome piece of gear!
