I do a lot of trips to camp sites without facilities and just wondering what everyone uses for a toilet thinking more of drop toilet rather than a chemical job... Guess you could say this is a bit of a Shitty topic...

This is our answer to that time old problem      a shovel, a big tree, some paper and your in business ( pardon the pun )

P.S.      Just need to add the magazine holder on the side

Similar to yours JK ... Ally directors chair with side table from the big green shed, removable 7mm ply base and seat  and an old plastic lined frytol cooking oil drum with snaplock ring lid .. poly tarp and 6' garden stakes for privacy on solo trips or an Oz trail dual ensuite used with the family trips ..

The Mrs has a "KOOKABURRA" bush toilet.
Its a folding box with seat that goes over a hole.
Before 1st use she lines it with newspaper and when we pack up camp it is clean and folds flat.
IMHO stay away from the type that have a bag or similar because you have a bag of s#@t to cart around.

We have the old thunderbox fold out galvanised setup that you need to dig a hole for as well as a chemical setup.

Sometimes you camp in places where there ground is like concrete. After setting up camp, the last thing you feel like doing is spending a couple of hours digging a hole in the hardest ground in the world.

We have a,chemical toilet for these times. We started off with a 10 litre capacity but the 20 litre joey is what you should be getting. You don't need to but all the BS chemicals that BCF and Anaconda tell you that you need at a fair cost. The cheap brand of napisan eats Shit and paper just as well for a fraction of the cost. It sucks emptying and cleaning but hey, sometimes it beets digging a hole.

I've always just used the good old fashion shovel and mother earth when facilities are not around.  Never thought about it much.  The I got married again and the missus insisted I get her a porta-loo.  I scoffed at the idea and told her we rarely camp where there are no public dunnies available.

Then we went for our regular trip to Lake Albacutcha and the women's loos were home to a few brown snakes. That made me reconsider things a bit.

We bought a Tetford porta potty just because it was cleaner and could be kept in the camper without filling it with stale wee smell.  Friends use an industrial bucket with a dunny seat screwed onto it and lined with a garbage bag and set it up in a portable shower tent.

A big tree ??   is that to hide behind ??  or shade in hot weather ??......usually get a bit of hard digging around trees !!

hole, in these areas please don't do like some others and leave toilet paper and poo everywhere,
carry a porta loo for when you can't dig that hole.

Only spots I've been have had toilets..

Sometimes a bit of a challenge, but a bit of roaming has found a soft spot....diggable anyway !!

Last trip we were on encountered a couple of camp sites with rock about 3 inches of sand covering,
couldn't even drive tent pegs in.

Searched everywhere and I mean everywhere and it was all the same just rock covered
by a thin layer of sand, a ramset would have been good to drive in some nails to
tie the tent guys to for the ones tenting. The tent occupants had to lay on the wind side
of the touring tents all night to side to stop them blowing over:)

I paid $68 on ebay for the toilet but they sell them at Ray's as well , this surely beats standing at those dump sites any day

Best thing is, your butt fits comfortably in the seat and its about the same hight at the one at home.

I refuse to crap in a bag or in some jerry rigged toilet seat on camp seat thing... Im more than happy to empty mine with my an anyone else's waste in it.
