hi all,

looking for the best pricing on a WD 4TB Red internal hard drive...

i have done a bit of looking (staticice, etc) but was wondering if anyone on the forums had access to some better pricing?

best pricing (from reputable suppliers) i can see is between $230 and $240, not including postage (which varies wildly)...

any info would be great, but if not, no biggie... :)

Good price. MSY has the WD Red 4TB for $245, and they are the cheapest I've ever found.

MSY are good on price for most IT gear, just expect to stand in queues for a while when you go.

Cheers

and wait even longer for any warranty returns...

I use my local CentreCom, not the cheapest but they offer good service.
I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go...

Umart $245. My wholesaler $241 (I used to have an IT business but now closed. Still have login to their website though)
Not a lot in it if you buy wholesale these days. Used to cost me more in fuel to pick it up from the wholesaler than Umart

We have to start thinking about what sort of a world we are going to leave for Keith Richards after we are all gone.

sounds about right.  first wholesaler's price was actually more than i could get from a normal retailer... WTF??

Yeah not surprising. I buy a lot of Western Digital Purple and Segate SV35.5 drives for security NVR and DVR installs and I had to get the wholesaler to match MSY and CPL pricing.  There must really be bugger all margin in HDDs

How do you find the WD Purple drives?

I've heard some good things about them...

barrel01

I find the WD Purple really good.  I would have 100's of them out in the field in NVRs recording 24/7.  Some brands of recorders run really hot too and they have not killed any.

I used the SV35 drives for years and they were pretty good too though the I did have a small return rate on them.

If your reading this thread, you'll probably appreciate this link to backblaze's stats from their 40,000 odd drive data centres - they seem to update their blog every 6 months or so and track drive performance over time.

https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-reliability-stats-for-q2-2015/

Their favoured drive is the Seagate 4TB (ST4000DM000) and I've been using a dozen of these in my NAS's for the last 12 months with no issues at all, best of all I think they're still the cheapest 4TB you will buy.
