no fan of tru blu

I read comments about the closure of Tru Blu Campers in Mordialloc. Well listen to this story and you will hopefully understand why I am not a fan of the Tru Blu camper organisation in Mordialloc I would not wish this experience on any consumer.

In 2014 I purchased a TruBlu trayback camper with a design of actuators that raise  the roof. The camper was fitted  at my request, with their endorsement onto a purpose built by TruBlu off road trailer. In summary,  I was promised faulty canvas repairs would be rectified - many times - yes they were repaired - not replaced - but not satisfactorily repaired, despite many many trips back and forth from the country to Melbourne at my own expense.  The 1st time it rained the interior was saturated -"Oh just put some sealant on the roof that will fix it it just hasn't been sealed properly" - It did not.  and storage latches faulty, water pump leaks, stove not working properly - resulting in return trips  to their factory . yes repairs carried out but a nightmare. Finally took camper on it's maiden voyage . all storage boxes leak - roof continues to leak. On Christmans eve I go to raise the roof and the final straw is the actuator system malfunctions and I have a pear shaped roof that bends actuators and camper cannot be returned to  closed position. Thank God this happened in the driveway of my house, if you were in isolated areas - think of it - dangerous and a nightmare. Tru Blu state on their website they stand by their products and they want the customer experience to be a pleasurable experience -  they never even came to inspect it when told of the situation and the fact that  it could not be removed from my driveway-mine was a nightmare and most stressful.

Requests to resolve same seeking refund were made to no avail, then sought intervention  from Consumer affairs no avail. Matter subsequently proceeds to VCAT seeking a ruling.  Tru Blu   attended the 1st hearing and were represented by Tom Holbrook who I dealt with mostly at Tru Blu campers - They are directed to pick up camper from my address and assess same - to which they agreed - this does not happen,  and  at a subsequent hearing a ruling is made in my favour for a full refund of my $$$$$. No appearance from Tru Blu at that time and then I hear they have closed their business - well you know what my thoughts are of this business.

I paid just short of $32000 for this unit and saved hard for a dream that did not eventuate - to say I am disappointed is an understatement.

Do not be fooled by salesman talk  -  when you are investing such large amounts the lesson I have learnt is that everything that is said is not true and you need to take someone with expertise in construction of campers to temper our enthusiasm for getting out into the backblocks.

This camper also came under the umbrella of Australian made - it fell far short as to what is was promoted to be. I have independent reports to support this. Please do not say I have a gripe with Tru Blu Campers  - for the record I DO.

It could have been worse. You could have paid in full for a 'Mirage' camper only for it to be not delivered...
I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go...

Properly named though......no deception there

Never good to hear about these situations.
Just for clarity, are you owed 32 in repairs or that your total outlay?
Cheers,

I am out of pocket to the tune of $32000 plus.

Can anyone provide me their experience with Campomatic hard floor campers prior to 2005.  I here they were well constructed. Any owner opinions would be valued.
I can only suggest from my experience that in this day and age where campers are getting more technical that there are more faults that can occur and when they do you are in trouble. Perhaps the original soft floor and hard floor operated by hand are best relied on - subject to quality of course.

Watty2975

We have a 2003 Campomatic. It is very solid and well built. We have used it extensively and have never had any issues with it. We have taken it to the cape via OTL, Fraser and many other places.

Check out Gunna Do's threads. Very good write ups on his.
